Hello Teo,

I'm not sure if you are interested in the build quality of the camera or the results of shooting. However, I find the camera to be very sturdy. If you browse the forum, you'll find few problems with the "hardware" in the postings.

I also find the photos terrific, even in with my modest abilities. Also, browse the forum to see samples from the S602Z. Some of the forum members are terrific photographers who have posted in their galleries some amazing samples of this camera's capabilities.

The E-10 is clearly more directed towards professional photography than the S602Z as evidenced by the RAW format of saved photos. The E10 is also becoming dated as it is nearly 2 years old. It is none-the-less still a very good camera. I am much more partial to the Fujifilm S602Z. I believe it has more to offer the amateur photographer. I've studied both cameras and my favorite is the S602Z hands-down. The CCDIII technology give produces photos that are indistinquishable from those that I've seen produced by the Olympus E-10. I think the controls, ease-of-use and variety of features of the S602Z make it a far better choice once you factor in the difference of cost versus the E-10. Buy the S602Z... you won't regret it. You can pick up the S602Z at an incredible low price of $459.99 at http://online-camera-shop.net/fuji/S602%20oom.htm

.... When I began to look at upgrading, the Fuji 602 was not even on my 'short list' - then I began hanging out on this forum, and learned a lot - now I've owned one since early July - no regrets! Just realize that there are a lot of options with this camera and you have to really learn it inside out in order to really appreciate (and use) all of its features. I suggest that you do searches in this forum .... or even go back to June/July timeframe and read many of the message threads ... You will then be caught up in the 'debate' over 6mp vs. 3mp....over soft sharpening versus normal ... etc....
Good luck.

I couldn't decide so I bought both at the same time. Shot several types of pics back to back, same pic, both cameras. I couldn't wait to return the E10, not a good camera for the money. When you look at the photos side by side the colors are true, better hue saturation, better contrast, sharper more detailed pics on the S602. I spent a day shooting with the E-10 and it just would not focus, found out alkalyne batteries will not work correctly on this aging model. And it's very, very slow. It takes about a minute to preview one jpg picture and zoom it to 4x, horrible usibility as I preview a lot, that's why I went digital.

The flash on the S602 is no good, thank goodness you can get an external flash. The E10 flash is great although I hear it eats batteries and I may have to take 200-400 pics in one session and I would hate to stop and change batteries. Also the E10 had very little purple fringing, the S602 has some but it's not bad. The E10 fits real nice in your hands, the S602 feels a little small but you can get a filter tube that makes it stick out about 2" more and should be OK, ordered but haven't gotten it yet.

If you are still unsure, buy from a place that allows hassles free returns like Circuit City, Costco or Fry's, buy both and return the one you don't like. It's a big invesment, you don't want regrets...

As always be careful of LOW prices. Average reputable dealer internet price currently is about $525-540 including shipping. The site mentioned here at online camera adds an additional $39 for Western union charges plus makes no mention of what shipping charges will be.. price including western union charges is $497.99 and we all know why businesses use western union.... means the buyer is easier to screw. Neither Biz Rate nor resellerratings.com show a listing for this site. Buyers proceed with caution and ask if $35 savings is worth the risk of western union payment!!

Currently owned an S30 for some time, and considering to upgrade to S602. Just heard that manual focus in 602 is not really manual. Means that you can make fine adjustments based on captured preview, but you can't really control the focus yourself from 1cm to infinity. Is this true? Also that there is no distance readout from its MF system. Can anyone clarify this problems? Thanks in advance.

S602 manual focus is a fly by wire system. It is extremely easy to use and very responsive. You can enlarge the center of the frame if needed for fine focus adjustments. I did this when taking a photo of my wife and the image was too sharp. It showed the hair follicles on her face. While this is not faltering in portrait photography, it is very useful to get this accurate a focus.

It seems weird but I got a feeling the Manual focus still change by itself if I point to another subject of different distance (from the sliding bar located at the bottom of LCD). Is it my wrong interpretation or it is how its MF system works?

Also can I confirm whether distance readout can/ cannot be displayed when using MF?

The focus in manual mode will stay where you put it. The bar at the bottom is just a scale to aid you in focusing. When you move, the scale is re-adjusting to the new focus area but it will not change the focus setting from where you actually left it.

Sorry but there is no distance readout with the 602.

Focussing bar?????

Pardon?

I've only ever seen an exposure meter. Please tell me how to access the focus bar.

Whoops... sorry, wrong camera.

I meant the focus arrows on the 602. It guides you towards the correct focus but I would guess that only works if the camera can focus by itself which you could just then use autofocus and it would hardly be needed at all.
Oh well... one of those days.

The focus arrows point you to the place that the autofocus system would focus, which may not be the correct place.

hi

thx for all the feedback...will check the previous threads...I was initially concerned as Phil's review indicated that the SCCD is not as good as
the 4 mega-pixel of the E-10.
But will most probably consider getting the S602z as it seems to be
better for value in terms of quality and price

thx

The autofocus system might see 2 or 3 focus points withing its frame of reference -

in manual focus if you turn from full close-up to full far distance on the same scene - the arrows will seize each focus point as it gets near to them........
