I really lucked out here and managed to catch the blast of the second 105mm howitzer as it lit up the smoke cloud from the first blast.

Why are they blasting? Well, because about 400 feet behind the howitzers there is a band playing the 1812 Overture. It was a fun evening! :-)

Some of my shots, taken with either an Olympus 2100UZ or a Sony F707, can be found at:

I hope you enjoy them.

Windows - It's just work
Macintosh - It just works

Especially to see & hear them as a part of the orchestra.

I forgot to mention that there was a 52 bell carillon, about 1000 feet from the howitzers and audience, contributing to the effect as well. :-)

P.S. This was during the centennial celebration of the summer school program. During the winter it is a college prep school (9-12 grades). Definitely not your average school. ;-)

very cool shots...the only thing that would be cooler would be to get a pic of the 105 shells as they landed on someones house...just kidding :)

I can see that almost everybody is editing their pictures, these two for example, have lost the EXIF info during the process. I am learning.

Yeah. :-( It turns out that the program I used to do my website (iView MediaPro) strips off the EXIF information. Unfortunately, I didn't find that out until after I had used it on over 400 pictures. I wasn't a happy camper, to say the least! What is stupid, is that the program can USE the EXIF and IPTC info to label pictures - as you can see at the specific page for the first picture:

Maybe I'll replace just the images during my two weeks off at the end of the year. ;-}

--Lew ...could this be Culver Military Academy? That looks like the horse stables in the back ground where Pass and Reveiw is performed. I was in class of 74 (W). Your right. It is not your average school. I used to tote one of those 105s behind a three quarter ton truck for Battery C. It WAS a blast!
