TL350/WB2000 startup time?

Hi all,

I'm evaluating the purchase of the Samsung TL350/WB2000, but I need to clarify what is the actual startup time of the camera. I read generic comment on it's speed but I've also read an article where the startup time was measured in 3 (three) seconds before the shutter release starts working and 5 (five!) seconds before all other buttons are ready to accept input. Is that true?
Would someone owning the camera be so kind to confirm these timings?
Thanks a lot.

I can check the time tonight, but I have never found the startup time to take a photo a problem. When I take the camera out of the bag I press the on button. By the time I get the camera up to eye level, it is on.

However, a very annoying problem is the time for the video to start. The lag time seems to take "forever," and I often miss the first few seconds of what I want to record. The lag time for video is way, way longer than the time it takes my video camera to start recording, which is almost instantaneous.

Thanks, Homepics. I'd really appreciate if you can give me numbers to compare.

Maybe I'm picky but I often get shot in a hurry or doing sport, thus every seconds count!

I would estimate that in just under three seconds the camera is fully started, and all buttons work. I started the camera several times, each time testing a different button. They all worked upon startup. I don't know what button the person may have pressed to have to wait 5 seconds. If you think you will take videos more than stills on a particular day, you can leave the dial on video, and then the camera starts in video mode. As you probably know, you can take stills when the camera is in video mode.

Three seconds isn't certainly fast, but probably as you say, it's the time you need to get the camera to the eye... I'll compare that timing with my old Coolpix 3700.
Thanks a lot.

I have never had the camera not be ready to take a photo, even when taking pictures of my kids at sporting events. But, like I said, the video start time is terrible. I have not compared video start time on other cameras, so the TL350 could be par for the course. When I know I will be doing a lot of video, I take my camcorder.

Thanks for your comments.
Just to compare my 10 years old Coolpix 3700 starts up in just above 2 seconds.

I think the startup time may depend on your memory card.

Try listing what card you use - especially its class (speed) rating - and how long your TL350 takes to startup.
That's a good point. The test on my old Coolpix 3700 was done with an equally old Class 4 (60x) SD card.

I did some more testing, and the time from when you turn the camera on to when you can take a picture is probably just under 2 seconds. The camera seems to need about another 3/4 of a second before the menu buttons work. I don't think the type of memory card used makes a difference, but I did not test another card because start up time is not a problem for me at all with this camera.

Thanks, that's what I read elsewhere: camera needs some more time to make operational all buttons. Two seconds anyway is a good timing.

I have no need to pay that much attention to them. They seem reasonably accurate, but I have not tested them in any way. For the battery I go by the indicator on the LCD. I don't take that many pictures/videos. If a card gets full, I put in my spare.
