I have been trying different settings ISO and F stops, all comments from this board, been very helpful, Today took a walk and was greeted by some pup Coyotes..unreal to say the least..

great shots.

first shot will benefit a lot with removal of the green leaves which are a total distraction.

BTW CS5 will do with magically with the content aware fill function in seconds

Not sure how to remove the leaves without cropping to much, but here's another.

Thanks for the comments

Here is an edit of the first. I expanded the canvas then used content aware fill to remove the leaf and fill in an expanded area on the left.

this shot is the best anyway as you have the coyote looking directly into the lens. top shot

I don't know what you have used for settings, but all the details are smeared out, yet the background is still noisy. The leave in upper left corner of the first image is disturbing, but the severe PP is the worst. At ISO 800 the images should look better. Sorry.

That's what would've concerned me... when I'm out hiking and a bear cub scurries across the trail, my thought is that if I take time to get the shot, it might well be my last!

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to more.

I live in the southwest and coyotes abound here and I have shot several over the years, yet I have never found them in the relaxed poses and or proximity that you show here. In fact, on the second (close up) shot, there appears to be a reflection of a piece of shiny metal down in the lower left frame as tho shot thru glass. The boulder placement looks to be man-made too. Were these shot in a zoo setting perhaps?
Regards, Jim

No not a zoo, no window piece of woods northern NJ. Just some rock wall that someone built by nearby woods.....Around here they like city life..

Agreed. Possibly shot JPG with normal or even high NR setting.

My bet is on camera shake or possibly even subject motion. Two of the three posted pics are well below the 1/focal length rule for shutter speed and half of the minimum speed I'd want to use for a moving subject. The third is right on the edge for 1/FL (assuming EXIF is reporting true focal length and not adding in the crop).

For the OP, were these shot from a tripod or monopod or using some sort of VR?

I was using the Nikon 200-400 VR ll hand held.. the woods were very dark and had a hard time adjusting...with the time I had....they started running...

EXIF doesn't say anything about VR. Was it on or off? Seems like an ideal situation to use it here.
