I currently plan to buy either fa 31 or 77 and need your thoughts about them.

I had fa 43 and I am curious to find out why there is a big difference in price between these lenses. I think they are in the same class.

Is the fa 31 for example has more glasses or a better glasses than the previous two.

the fa 43 and 77 are expensive indeed compare with others but are accepted to me whereas the 31 is very expensive.

I have 31 & 77 and just ordered 43 today from Adorama today. I have only had 77 for a week and so far I would say 31 is much sharper and better at auto focus. But the softness and the colors of 77 seems to serve portraits well.

I am not a ´number´ guy so I have no numbers about this and that to tell, but you can probably get that from many others here. I have chosen the three amigos - and think I almost only will use those - because they speak to me in an artistic way and inspire me to be very intuitive in how I shoot and how I post process.

Here are a two samples of 31 and the two of 77 - you can see more in may gallery http://mediaman.smugmug.com/

Good luck in your process of choosing what´s best for you :)

Both are very good. You have to decide what field of view you prefer. Perhaps you would more like the DA21 on the wide end. That would make a nice combo, too, 21 - 43 - 77. But if you prefer a little wider, 15 - 31 - 43 - 77 are nice, too ... :-)

Best regards, Bernd

My FA77 is very sharp. Have you done a proper lens calibration?

If you divide the MSRP by the weight in ounces, they are actually all pretty similar:

31 = $106/ounce
43 = $108/ounce
77 = $94/ounce

The 77 is the real bargain!

(Not that it means anything, just for grins, but the 31 does have a lot of glass.)

I have all three and while they are expensive, they are all great lenses. Yes they have CA and are a bit soft wide open but they are also capable of rendering just the kind of photos I like and come in a small, very well made package.

I love the 31 and 43 in particular and the 77 makes a great medium tele for low light work (concerts).

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.

good gawds man...don't do that when I have a mug of coffee and just started a sip...hahahaha, love it...heck it's a lot cheaper than gold but a bit more than silver these days though they will likely hold their value in the medium term compared to those 'other' precious metals. ;)
