Is there an equivalent of the LX-5 with a longer zoom lens (400mm plus)?

Want to use as a compliment to the LX-5 when I need a longer lens.

When you say "equivalent", what do you mean? Size equivalent? Image quality equivalent? If it's size, I would get one from the ZS/TZ line. I have found it to be a great compliment to my LX when I want to capture wildlife (I use it with a hoodloupe in lieu of a viewfinder). If it's IQ, especially for lowlight performance, I would get either a FZ or, more likely, a m43. I don't mean to say that the FZ has better image quality than than the ZS in lowlight, but they do have features that come in very handy when doing telephoto work, such as a built in EVF. But if you want equivalent or to move up in IQ and have a good reach, I would think a FZ or m43 is the way to go.

All the cameras with the longer zoom ranges use much smaller sensors. Bigger sensor like the LX5 requires a larger lens, and you can't realistically build a 400+mm equiv into that camera without making it far too big and expensive.

Options are either go for a compact like the ZS series, which is super useful, however the IQ in anything but good light wont match the LX5, or, move up to something like m4/3 which while much bigger, has a much larger sensor and some good lenses.

Might be a step more than you want to take but its the next smallest option of getting a compact sized camera with some serious reach and good image quality.

Really no other options on the market

I was after LX-5 level IQ for mostly daytime outside shots like airshows.
You definitely need more of a reach for that.
I tried a Fuji HS10 but IQ was disappointing, any of the bridge size superzooms have good IQ?
I like the FZ series. I have an FZ50 that I use for birding (both metal and otherwise). What I have seen posted here, the FZ series continues to have good image quality, especially if you are talking about daytime shots.
m4/3 is interesting and the G3 is out soon.
I think about moving up at times. But I have all my bases covered right now. Another camera would just make it that much more difficult to decide which one to use. If I wanted to replace my FZ50, I would probably either go for the 100 (for the articulating screen) or buy a G series.

There are none with an F2.0 lens, nor any as compact as the LX3 or LX5.
Among compact cameras, the Olympus SZ-30MR reaches 600mm zoom;
the Olympus SZ10 504mm;
the Nikon S9100 zooms to 450mm;
the Canon ELPH SX230, SX220, and SX210 zoom to 392 mm;
the Panasonic ZS10 and ZS8, and the Leica V-Lux 30 zoom to 384mm;
the Sony HX9V gets to 384mm;
The Fuji F550, F500and F300 and Samsung HZ35W and HZ30W reach 360mm.

Longer zooms are found on several larger models.
