***The Weekly Close up 11/2011***

We call them Water Boatman also known as Common Back Swimmer Notonecta glauca

A completely random shot when shooting Dragonflies with the 70-300 on Friday. Just point and press the shutter and this is the result. I've never taken any interest before but what a great photographic subject.

Fantastic shots again this week.

Here's one of mine, a Bumblebee , I think? First time I could capture one with the proboscis in the flower.

Thank you, Jim!

You're not going to believe how I came across this little nymph. I was trying to photograph my dog Max when I noticed this minute little thing jumpin around on the patio floor. I was like what the heck is that? I got down closer and to my surprise it was the mantis nymph. I grabbed a dried up leaf and enticed the nymph into jumping onto it. It did and placed the leaf on the patio table where I tried getting some captures; these little things are fast and pretty fuzzy. Kind of hard to get a good photo out of them cause they're nervous little things.

I appreciate the kind words.

Hopefully next time I can catch a few facing me. lol

Mantis is a tiny nymph. Glad to see several of these in my yard.

Heck I wish half the shots I intentionally take came out that good.

When I shoot it at 2-1, it isn't nearly that size. Great work!
