**Weekly Wildlife Thread #93-Sunday, May 29th, 2011**

Jolene,

They all look great. Our Iris are long gone... Yours are so beautiful they hardly seem real. Really like the shot of the wing stretch. Don't see that often.

Lo.ve the variety you get in the park Charles it must be a great spot for bird watching, despite the bad rep the park gets on TV in NY Cop shows.
We're very lucky to be on the Eastern Flyway during migration...this is the best time of year, of course, for variety.

As for the bad rep on the cop shows......well, it is TV, after all...

Cheers,

Charles

Great selection of birds and I really like that tulip shot very much. That little warbler is a treat for me to see.
Thanks. I'm quite fond of the Tulip shot, myself. Glad you're enjoying those warblers.
I think that your first bird in a vireo, most likely a Philadelphia vireo. Check your bird book and let me know what you think.
That's a tough call for me....could be either to my eye. I'd actually asked someone else since I was clueless to begin with. He gave my the Least Flycatcher ID and it looked pretty good. Hmmmmm.......will remain a mystery, I guess....

Cheers,

Charles

Like the 'defocus' of all the other tulips in the background, with only the first in focus.
The R1 really allows for a nice, shallow DOF with it's f2.8 lens, so that's how I shot it with the focus point on that one Tulip.
I assume the birds were photo'd in Central Park. NYC is lucky to have that 'oasis'!
VERY lucky to have our little "Oasis" here ;-) .

Cheers,

Charles

Marti,

That shot is absolutely stunning. It captures a perfect moment and the colors are fantastic.

Hi Bassy,

Very interesting looking Jays. Those in my neck of the woods are very different.

All taken with SLT A55 some with the SAL 18-250 and some with the Tamron 200-500.

Very protective bird on the Mall at Washington DC - Is this a mockingbird? I find it interesting that it is tagged. Female was on the nest nearby.

This one is from my backyard in Pittsburgh. They finally discovered my peanut feeder. He looks like he needs nourishment.

The rest are from my in-laws in Northwest Ohio. No photoshop on these, other than cropping.

Cedar Waxwing - I had never seen one and in the shadows he looked like a titmouse. I was very happy with Iso 1600 jpg, although I could have dialed it down since the SS was so high. Camera picked 1600.

Hummingbirds at the feeder (ruby throated females I think)

Moth? Butterfly?

Hope this one is ok, we did catch and release. One very slimy catfish. Nephew in the bokeh.

Thanks for looking,

Rich

Yup, it's a mockingbird, and a very good photo. I just saw and photographed my first one this week, not common here at the edge of the range.

The bug is some kind of skipper, which is classified as a butterfly. There are probably at least fifty different ones that all look pretty much alike to me.

Some good work here, I really like the waxwing too. I just love watching them work the trees. Usually they are in small flocks though.
Thanks for posting.
regards,
Jolene

Okay--I know there is some new camera excitement and some of you just like to do it that way. I hate to discourage participation in any way but I would ask you 'pretty please' to try to save em up for a couple of days at least and post with more photos in one post. Saves some wear and tear on yours truly.
Regards,
Jolene
