Probably takes about 2-3 working days to get it into their system, and Monday is a holiday so they probably are closed and then swamped on Tuesday when they resume. I took mine into the one in El Segundo, CA and they posted it online to see in about 4 days so it wasn't exactly fast, but I believe they hand it off to NY offices for that online part. I think once the tech or whomever validates it as a warranty and not some customer goof-up like dropping it or a grey market it will then go online so it takes some time and is not immediate. Once mine went online it was pretty quick to get it out in a few days.

It took about 2 weeks overall to get mine back, but I took it in in person and they said it's about 1 week in-house and another few days for UPS to get it back. Might be part of their busiest season too. Had I taken it to the dealer for the claim it would really be slow as they would have to ship it out (whenever), and then get it back (whenever), and then notify me it was back (whenever).

If I was you, next time I cleaned the sensor myself with a cleaning kit in 5 minutes.

I agree with you! The first time I ever cleaned a sensor (the day I received my second D5100, which had two stubborn spots), I was 100% successful in removing every last trace of those spots on my second pass of the sensor wipe. Being that we DSLR owners will be swapping lenses, it's just a matter of time before dust gets in there, and I've read many places that just zooming a lens can push dust onto the sensor. If every time we see dust (or oil) on a sensor we send it to Nikon, that's going to severely cut into our use of our camera(s). IF I can clean a sensor successfully the first time out, ANYONE can. Just don't use the wrong products or be hamfisted about it.

I know that I am alot over the top with this and some can clean the sensor thim self. NOT ME.

I am so sad that NIKON. has this problem,as i work hard for my cash and to drop 1200, on a camra that has problems.
They need to make this knowen to alll........

Should have got a d300s..........

As of now Nikon has not sent me a email that they have my toy....

I have the same problem with my D7000, some kind of dark spot on my files - care to share with us what product/products you used.

You WILL get dark spots on your images whether you use a D7000 or D3x its a fact of digital life that dust/oil will at some point get on your sensor, I suggest that you look at some you tube videos and learn how to clean the sensor yourself, This is not a Nikon problem as ALL Dslrs will get them

Not really sure as how to post pics here but i am saying that this is for real.....

I tryed 3 lens on the d7000 THEN d 3100 no spots on the d3100.

Dont get me wrong i love the cam. but it dosnt live up to hippe......

AND NIKON still has not sent me a email ...........

I always look at what people are saying about this and that with a grain of salt.
But now i am the one saying?
And it is not good to be on this side of the fence

I sent mine in for free Sensor Clean because of oil marks it took about 2 weeks to get the camera back.

The marks are starting to appear again this time I'm going to replace it with a D300,I'm sick of it a new camera shouldn't get these marks, my old D90 never had oone mark on the sensor and that was after 3 years use .

Eclipse fluid and Sensor Swabs (type 2 for DX sensor). I'd never done it before, but I had watched an excellent video of how to do it; hence my success. I don't credit myself--I credit the fellow who made the instructional video! :)

Ray, did you mean that your wages are $8 an hour? If that's the case, I'd think a $1,200 body would be a stretch for you, to say the least. I'm sure you love photography though. Sometimes one just has to sacrifice to get the things that they like. oh, my second D5100 had two spots on the sensor from the factory. When I first got my 3100, I thought it was spotless, but later on, by doing a more careful f22--sky-out-of-focus test, I realized there were quite a few spots on its sensor also. THe only camera of the three I have had recently that didn't have spots was the first 5100. it was pristine. unfortunately it had major problems, so I returned it in exchange for the one I have now which is now both clean, and working properly in all aspects.

What don't you understand about dust on a sensor?? Even oil at times??? It happens to all digital DSLR's. It can happen if you use a zoom because they suck air in. It can happen when you change lenses. It can happen if you take a lens off. IT HAPPENS TO ALL DSLR"S. If it hasn't happen to your DSLR in the past, it's either because you haven't looked hard enough or you don't take many pictures. You sound as though you are a beginner at this sport.

Yes i am fairlly new to this but i know that this is no to norm.........

So my ?? is if one is always careful in lens swappppppp

HOW IS this happen??

OLD newbbbbbb

Geez, is there any reason to be so rude to him simply because he might be "new to this sport"? You smack talk like that to others, you'll hear from me. If you smack talk like that to me directly it will be the LAST time because I'll never see your posts again. How about chilling with the 'tude just a tad. Being new at something isn't a crime. Being inordinately rude is darn close to a crime! :)
