Hi all

I am trying to remove my daughter and the flowers from the image linked so that I can smudge it.

I am having so many problems trying to extract I am hoping someone here might be able to help please.

I wanted a simple white background etc but this extraction is beyond me to get it correct.

Anyone fancy a try....it would be really appreciated if you could.

I would also need a file of similar size to the linked image to keep quality for the smudge

If anyone was kind enough to do and could e mail to me my address is

[email protected]

I appreciate this is a real tricky one but so many helpful people here.......

Look forward to seeing what can be done and if possible, perhaps for the benefit of those interested, a workflow would be great....really need to learn this technique!!!

Best wishes....and thanks in anticipation......

Ray

ps...hope the link to dropbox is how to do it?

Hi Chip and Ralph

The images in both of my posts are showing up....they are very large and definitely showing.

Any ideas please?

I uploaded to dropbox and then opened the image then I copied the link and posted?

Best wishes

Ray

sorry about this

You need to post your images somewhere that has public access - we dont know your account details therefore cannot see your images :(

You can see them because you have logged into the site you are dropping the files on - try logging out, closing your browser then opening it onto this thread, you will then see the same as us - nothing :(

Thanks.....that explains it....my apologies for the confusion!

Ray, I'm not very experienced at extraction but have tried, I'm quite sure other members will be eager to show the right way to do this and perhaps share.

Thanks Carl

That is a better effort than mine........a little bit missing around her waist though.

I am hoping that Sam (the extraction wizard) might pick this up.

Given the problems in getting the image link to post I am going to repost the thread as new so the working link is prominently available.

My thanks again

Thanks Ray, agree about Sam or JJM they are the masters. I do make lovely Cakes Ray, can't be good at everything.

In that case.....how about a lovely cake to eat whilst I do the smudge!!!!....LOL

Very best wishes

You are going to need to do this for dark areas and then the sky. Here are a couple of ways to start with the dark areas.

Use Levels and Dodge and burn...the beginning of the process.

I took the above image and loaded it as the layer above a white background and changed it Subtract mode. You can then open a Hue/Sat. adjustment layer and darken the individual colors. Then more dodge and burning or painting black and white.

If you used a background image it would be 100 times easier (and faster). For a white background it will be easier to draw the hairs or find an image with a white background and cut/paste. You can use my method as a template to draw the hair on a white background.

Hi Chip

Many thanks for your time effort and that explanation.

Perhaps I should explain..

I realised the predicament you have identified....very bright areas at the top and then the dark areas elsewhere....together with fly away hair.

I actually did a smudge of a lot of the image (now deleted) because I realised I have not given adequate thought beforehand to what I was doing.....my own fault.

When I came to look at smudging the lighter area...there was too much of a contract between that and the dark areas to either side...the image just looked odd...hence my suggestion that it should be on a white b/g so as to start from scratch....

However, the reason for that request was because it was, in my eyes, the solution to dealing with my failure to have identified the white are and the rest being dark....it seems to stand out too much.

If therefore there was an easier alternative that you and/or others could come up with....I am all for it.

Perhaps I should have said....how can I improve this, in particular to remove the unduly bright bit above Maria's head which is distracting.

Any help appreciated and as before...my thanks.

Best wishes

Ray
