I currently have A850 and while I love it there is always room for some improvement.

So here is my wishlist:

VF:
  • 100% view
  • Option to show gridlines
  • Option to show horizontal and/or vertical spirit levels
Body:
  • Ability to lock control wheels ( while shooting in studio )
  • Support for CFast cards ( and keep CF )
  • Ability to save pin-code protected owner info
Battery grip:
  • Relocate AF/MF button ( it's just under my thumb in portrait mode )
Lens:
  • 24-1xx FF zoom with a reasonable price ( 600-800 Eur )
I do not need:
  • Top plate LCD
  • GPS
  • Video
If the rumours are correct and there will be two versions I will probably get the high ISO one bc I think A850 already has enough resolution for studio.

So whats on Your wishlist thats missing from A850/A900 ?

Pls don't turn this thread into a debate if there will be a new Sony FF nor to a fight about OVF vs EVF.

I hope they don't put the on-off switch on the shutter button like recent examples ... :(

VF:

100% agree

Use the "L" focussing screen? It has a 4h x 6w grid.
Actual level would be useful, so +1 for that.
Body:
  • Ability to lock control wheels ( while shooting in studio )
Have not had this need (and I make studio captures all the time).
  • Support for CFast cards ( and keep CF )
  • Ability to save pin-code protected owner info
Excellent idea, and should be v. easy to implement.
Battery grip:
  • Relocate AF/MF button ( it's just under my thumb in portrait mode )
Is it inconvenient there? And do you have v. large hands?
Lens:

Agree. I rarely-to-almost-never use it.
Disagree. Would v. much like to have GPS (inc. altitude) stamped to my captures.
Agree agree agree agree.

Fully-articulated flip-out LCD screen

ISO in viewfinder

36 MP multi-aspect sensor (inc. 3x4 and 1x1)

No shots remaining in viewfinder (relatively minor)

Click-wheels (press for "enter")

As direct a method for setting ISO as exists for Exposure Duration and Aperture Size.

Usable right-angle viewer w. parfocal magnifier and diopter lock

Dual CF or HDSC cards, with all possible exposure-saving combinations (incl. dual-write, and auto-overflow

A white set mark on the SSS slider

Adjustment scale on diopter

Auto-black of LCD when using VF

Ring attachment point instead of strap attachment point on VG

Totally unmarked, "badgeless" front and rear.

4 custom exposure settings in place of three

L-plate

Integrated L-plate and VG

Under $2,000 US.

I'm sure I've left off a few major and a dozen minor points.
Pls don't turn this thread into a debate if there will be a new Sony FF nor to a fight about OVF vs EVF.

So putting aside the whole OVF/EVF thing, I'd like:

1) sensor based live view with at least 10X magnification
2) an LCD that can be angled for awkward positions

3) much better low light high ISO (not necessarily much higher just low noise up to ISO 12,800).

That should do it.

Regards
John

  • Option to show gridlines
Use the "L" focussing screen? It has a 4h x 6w grid.
It's a "permanent" option, not on/off.
Body:
  • Ability to lock control wheels ( while shooting in studio )
Have not had this need (and I make studio captures all the time).
I use front wheel to change aperature and back wheel to change shutter speed and sometimes I inadvertently rotate ( usually ) the front wheel.
Battery grip:
  • Relocate AF/MF button ( it's just under my thumb in portrait mode )
Is it inconvenient there? And do you have v. large hands?
Don't know if I have big hands but sometimes I have changed to MF and wondered why I can't focus.

So here is my wishlist:
Battery grip:
  • Relocate AF/MF button ( it's just under my thumb in portrait mode )
Yes, the button on the camera body is in a slightly different position, and I confuse the AF/MF and EV compensation buttons.
I do not need:
  • Top plate LCD
I thought I would, but I rarely use it - but that could be because it's too rudimentary. E.g. it only tells that EV compensation has been set, not if it's + or -, and certainly not the value.
I have pictures that I would love to pinpoint on a map, but it's not all-important.
Nah, video is interesting right after it was shot, then maybe again after 20-30 years.
So whats on Your wishlist thats missing from A850/A900 ?
If shootin in 16:9, the camera should automatically change to 3:2 in vertical.
ISO readout in VF and TD (top display)

Auto-disable SteadyShot when using lenses with OS activated - or vice versa, preferably by user choice.

New, low macro flash controller that doesn't prevent the use of an angle finder in horizontal (somewhat off topic, I know).

Video:

Fortunately or unfortunately, I think video may be a marketing necessity, although I hate the idea of processing it. Video would mean different CF cards, I guess? Video would also mean I care more about a flip-out LCD, which I don't now - hate framing with the things and prefer viewfinder. Those are the video-dependent things I can think of, but don't do video now.

GPS:

GPS is a toss-up. Last year I thought I needed it, this year I'm not so sure. There are a lot of times I would turn it off.

Buttons and wheels:
Please keep all, I use them all.

Sensor size:

If there is only an OVF, (seems unlikely - Guess it will be SLT and I have no experience with that) and there is a low-light-friendly, lower pixel count sensor, I would probably purchase that rather than the larger sensor; I would plan on keeping and using my current a900 body as well and am happy with the pixel count I've got - don't need larger, really. If we get an EVF with multi-aspect ratio - a 1x1 crop could be awesome - I probably would change my mind and buy a 30-something-pixel body, if available.

Do not need top plate LCD either.

Would agree that I could use a lens that is similar to the 24-105MM f4L Canon, primarily for travel and walk-around. Love the really fast glass, but sometimes I need to travel lighter.

  • studio flash sync at 1/500 or maybe 1/1000 sec for matching bright outdoor lightning and for action photography with all kinds of flash
  • blinking highlight warning visible in the evf (on/off)
  • easy to reach focus check button with 7.5 and 15 X crop (very useable also for handheld shooting)
  • panorama, face detection and low light multi exposure modes are welcome (for photojournalism and news photography)
  • MORE LENSES! A new high quality 20 mm f:2.8, new 35 mm f:2, 50 mm f:2 and 85 mm f:2 lenses with SSM drive would be nice, and also some more long bright lenses for nature and sports photography.

A remote sensor that works from other angles other than just from the front.

While I can still edit ....

Proper tethering support for products like Lightroom and others ..

Built-in wireless radio flash controller!

There's not even an official TTL-enabled controller on the market. Would be a perfect solution to just integrate this nicely into the body ... or the vertical grip! :]

  • same design and build quality as A850/900:-)
  • ISO indicator in viewfinder
  • improved auto focus system:
  • more AF points (and more crossed ones)
  • option to switch between different numbers of active AF points
  • larger area covered by AF points
  • at least a little bigger indicators of main AF points
  • 3D tracking function (or anything similar what would make tracking
and composing of fast moving objects easier) as Nikon or better
  • overall more customized AF system
  • if new FF has only EVF, so more comfort and customized gridlines system,
more apparent lines of different formats and more offered formats at all
  • revamp "legendary" Minolta Beercan lens
  • 70-210 F4
  • with SSM?
  • as much similar design as possible (metal, all black etc.)
Maybe I forget anything:-)...

Martin

Good Thread!!

• More Mega pixels

• Even better Dynamic Range

• Improved autofocus ( and more comprehensive micro adjust for different distances, or even better: auto micro adjust system)

• Faster Profile Support for Capture one (must supply them with proper profiles more quickly)

• File numbers do not roll over after 9999 (I plan on taking more than nine thousand photos with the camera)

• minor: Better bracketing options and functions > see canon rebel original version 300d

Fwiw, tethering an a850 or a900 to Aperture is easy, free, and reliable.

Here is a write-up:
http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/topic74097&OB=ASC.html

There is no reason to use "Hot Folder". OS X has folder actions built-in to the OS. Just create a one-operation Automator action to import to Aperture (this function is built-in to AppleScript) and assign it as a folder action to the folder you specify in RCC.

As long as your Sony camera works with Sony's Remote Camera Control software (it's a program -- it is not the remote device which operates some cameras), the method listed will work.
