Night Cityscape - Any Comment?

How did you avoid that characteristic yellowish cast from low light. Beginner here.

Nice shot, where is it?

Martin, I think it needs to be cropped. The balck sky doesn't really add anything to the photo imo. If there were some clouds, that would be better. As well, I think the placement of the lighted tower shouldn't be in the middle, but off to one side. I did a quick crop and think this looks better:

The 5700 has a great auto color ballance. It aint perfect but on shots like this it does great.

Try it, you have nothing to loose. Erace it if it's bad and try again.

Martin,

In a case like this, when you have time and your camera is mounted on a trypod. I'd have used 2 shots, one a half stop darker (to get the most detail from the neon and signs.) and another a stop or two lighter to get all the shadow detail (in the darker areas) if you don't move the camera and take several exposures you can open them in Photoshop and use the clone or other tools to paint or cross fade some of the detail from one shot to the other.

DON"T get me wrong. Unless you have years of practice, this is a real good shot. I'm just saying don't be afraid to explore.

My motto is "If I'm not shooting on film I can shoot all day and only run down a set or batteries."

Oh, I just used auto white balance, so no skill required. And the pic is taken in Hong Kong.

Hey, thanks for the advise. I'll try doing that next time.

I just started taking photo for two weeks. So, I'm actually very proud of myself. But I know I can get better. Thanks for all the advise.

Hey, thanks for the advise. I'll try doing that next time.
I just started taking photo for two weeks. So, I'm actually very
proud of myself. ...
You should be proud, this is a nice shot. The other guys crop does work but the tall building looks like it is leaning. I can't believe it would be lens distortion. The shore looks level, Is this building leaning?

Keep up the good work, I'd love to see more of your fine city. If you need help with merging shots like this email me. I'd be happy to help.

I have no idea why it would be leaning. and no, the building are not suppose to be leaning. Weird.

WOW! That's an amazing shot Austin316! Did you use a tripod? Can you post the data sheet?

Hi Martin,
Very nice photo. I like the red and blue reflections on the water.

Regarding the leaning, I think you're just seeing perspective. The buildings are tall and you're close to the water. I have a similar effect in one of my day time shots taken from a similar angle.

We were in Hong Kong last fall. Amazing city! I wish we could have stayed longer and seen more. A few of my Hong Kong photos taken with the 990 are here:

hello,

I like that Idea and just did not think of it. I am not sure that I have two exact shots, but I will use what I have anyways and see what comes out.

I use photoshop 5.5 and consider myself to have a decent knowledge of it, so if you could explain a little more the general procedure so I would have a better idea of where to go and where to start. Or if you have any links that would elavorate more on this idea please let me know.

My main concern with this is how to fade from one image to the other when the shot is so busy, so much going on with all the light reflections...

When you mean fade, do you mean using the mask feature, or just simply using the erraser on the top layer?

Which tools do you use?

All these is only if you don't mind sharing...

I do not know if its just me, but when I went to your pbase gal, not all images are showing, and some of the links do not have any images so they do not go anywhere...
