Will a CF card reader allow me to upload modified images to the card? I have a G3, and when I modify an image in, Photoshop for example, I cannot upload the image back onto the CF card through the camera. It says it's not a Canon image, or something like that.

Any help would be appreciated. (It's my first digital camera)

Yes a CF Card reader should do the trick for you. The direct camera connection, as you have learned does not allow images to be uploaded from PC to camera. A card reader will make your card appear just like another hard drive in Windows Explorer (or the Mac equivalent). You can copy files in both directions.

Yes, you can use a card reader/writer to transfer images to the card. The card reader will act as any other floppy disk drive in that regard. However, the camera won't read them unless they meet canon specifications regarding size, etc. Most people use Zoombrowser to transfer images back and forth if they want the camera to be able to view the image or determine what parameters in regards to format, size, etc they need to use to enable transfer from another program. I haven't done this myself. There have been previous threads discussing this in regards to the G2 and G1. Perhaps if you do a search you can find some of them. If you have a help section in the software provided by Canon, the information should be available to you. Good Luck!

You don't necessarily need a card reader to do this. For example, ZoomBrowser EX has a feature for this, doesn't it? The Help file says:

Upload images

To upload images to your camera, make sure your camera is correctly connected and ready to interact with your computer. If you are using a Canon Memory Card, make sure it is inserted into your computer or a linked device.

In the Task Area select Camera & Memory Card, then click Upload Images.

Select Images
Click this step to select the images you want to upload to your camera.

Open Camera Window...

Click this step to upload the selected images to the Camera Window. Follow the instructions in the Camera Window to complete the upload to your camera.

The presumably ZoomBrowser ensures that the uploaded images are correctly formated for the camera to read. I wonder to what extent ZoomBrowser can adapt previously edited images.

For instance, will ZommBrowser adjust resolution, aspect ratio, and EXIF data? Is there any limit to what the software can handle? Or is it safe to assume that I can simplt drop a collection of any group of random iamges from multiple sources and the software will automatically do whatever necessary to ensure the camera can play them back?

If so, this is a very useful feature I'd love to explore. I've never been albe to put together a slideshow of selected images to display to friends on TV. But then again, I've never installed Sony's software, always transfering files manually using a card reader. I wonder if Sony's software can do this as well...
