BHS, FA*250-600mm f5.6 (6 imgs)

Looking good Ron. I think 1 and 5 are my favorites. Nice clarity there. Will be interesting to also get your impressions on how it really compares to the other big lenses for sharpness/clarity.

Looking forward to more of your adventures with that lens.

One caution - if you find yourself referring to that lens as "my precious" that may proof positive that you now have the one lens to rule them all....

Thanks everyone.

I've put up a wide open shot if anyone is interested. See it at
Cheers.

An impressive lens that lives up to its reputation Ron. And yes it does look like bf, but then the twiggy bits have high contrast amd might just LOOK in focus.

  1. and six just made my day!!!! I do recall your statement, "sharpness is over-rated"! These are at par with the best.

Hi folks,

I cropped The Twins (image #1) to 10x8 inches and printed it out. It is sharp and looks good to me. My grandnephew will be happy to get this one for his animal collection.

I like the rendering the lens gives Ron, it gives a special "pop" to the images. Some more proof that old FA* glass can't be beaten.

Didn't know you had the 250-600, so a late congrats!

And a Pentax-FA*300mm f2.8 was offered to me but I can't buy the dang thing because I've spent all my money on this FA*250-600mm f5.6 lens. Someday......

Unfortunately my budget is busted - I've been buying too many Leica lenses recently! ;)

These are the best I could do today. I was trying different things, handheld and supported on my rear view mirror, Kirk window mount, and Wimberly Gimbal on my heavy tripod. The EXIF is intact. I am tired from looking at images. Image #2 has been cropped a healthy amount just so I could see how zooming in on a 600mm shot would look.
Somehow I didn't expect you'd get one. Silly me!

Looks like she's a beaut. Congrats!

Thanks Gunn. Forum member Dock offered it to me and I just couldn't refuse. This is a once in a lifetime lens as far as I am concerned. I hope my future images will justify it's purchase.

Cheers.

these are prety poor samples, in practice all are motion blurred and poor exectuted.

i'm sure u need to train with this leans , it's a beast, and probabl shooting from a rear mirror of a car with this lens is not very comfortable.

Light is harsh too and even the rendering is not so good. I expcted much more from this lens.

Sorry for the comment but better u know the truth and know where u have to improve.
I dont understand all the " great shot" " superb shots" " superb...::".

Your expectations seem strange to me.

Perhaps if you tried wildlife photography with any 600mm lens, you would have a better appreciation of these.

Are you an armchair expert, or actually experienced in 600mm+ shooting? Either way your harsh reply is really uncalled for and on the verge of trolling.

trolling?
wghat are you talking about?

these samples are soft poorly composed and with poor lighting. i dont wanna offend just comment on a photo. Im not an expert of 600 mm lenses, if i shoot wildlife pentax would be my last choiche by the way. But im an expert travel photo working with many photo journalistic agency in italy and abroad, and selling stock photos throug macro and micro agency. So i know what make a good photo, even if i dont shoot wildlife.

I'm not saying the guy is bad photographer, simply these samples are not good and he just can train to use this beast lens.
If this is trolling, good luck man.

seriously if i shoot wildlife and use a 600 mm lens ill shoot a nikon or a canon, not pentax, and in case i will trsh theses samples. They are not goo, they suffer from motion blur and poor rendition, especially light. Photography is about light. If you shoot in poor light you will produce poor photos. That's why wildlife pro like moose pet or other spend our catching a beast at sunset or sunrise.
anyway i think anybody can have its way of judg a photo.

???

The photos are great esp #1... and except from #2 not motion blurred all to start with, while the other comments about harsh light and rendering, are more subjective, I don't think that I have seen better BHS photos here or elsewhere.

that's uor view i respect. i dont care if i dont have seen better photo here, or not. i mean theworld dont' end up here, and i have seen a lot of wildlife around the net and magazine. In my opinion they are pretty medium sample, nothing make me scream Good photos. Not the composition not the sharpness and not the lighting.

Lighting is not subjective, im sorry. harsh light is poor always. where are the colors? they are pale, due to the harsh light.
I mean go to some proefessional wildlife photog web site and see the samples.
Im sure the photog here can do much better of these.
