A Netbook and Photoshop

As you may realize Photoshopping/editing on such a small screen is not a great idea, not to mention you would be highly recommended to upgrade the ram to better run photoshop. IMHO, its just not an overall good idea.

Hello, is there a reasonably priced Netbook that will run Photoshop? Thank you.

Francis
Photoshop does not run on any smaller screen than 1024 x 768 with 1280 x 800 strongly recommended as the minimum. Netbooks have a 600 x something 10-11" screen. Photoshop needs a decent ultraportable and preferably a 12-13" screen at a minimum. Photoshop Elements, on the other hand, will run on a netbook.

As a couple has already mentioned, there is a minimum screen resolution required. Also, Photoshop is a very fat application, I don't know if any Atom processor will do it justice. You'll need some muscles and memory.

It is possible to get around the minimum resolution requirement by installing Photoshop while the netbook is attached to an external monitor. However, that doesn't make running it on a small screen and underpowered machine any more recommended.

I'm running CS5 on a HP DM1Z 11.6" netbook with no problems. I wouldn't recommend it for any serious editing. I use mine for viewing, storing and backing up files on the road. It has a AMD E-350 dual core processor, screen resolution is 1366 x 768.
Read the reviews, youi'll see it is one of the top netbooks available today.

Heres another thought-perspective...

What are the hardware specs of the full size desktop-laptop that I assume you have now? Is it fast-slow?

I run a Q9550 overclocked to 4x3.5 ghz with 8 gig of ram and 2 300 gig Velociraptors in RAID 0 for my OS drive for my lightroom-photoshop editing, and i end up waiting for that to process my 12 meg cr2 files. To me, a netbook would be torture on the mind and eyes trying to edit pictures at all.

YES, my data files are stored in a separate raid 6 array for redundancy for those that dont like raid 0. :)

Photoshop will run on any Netbook, I put it on an old Asus EEE pc I have but its not very usable or practical if you want to do any real kind of work on it. The screen is too small with too low of a resolution which makes it difficult to work on it.

Here's a netbook review illustrating PS CS4 running on a 1.6-atom-processor Vaio P. PS illustration comes at about 9' 30".

That's strange. It takes half that time on my 12+ year old IBM Thinkpad 600E with a 366 Cyrix CPU, 296MB RAM (the max) and a whopping 6 GB HDD. :-P

It easily runs XP-PRO (after updating the BIOS) too.

(I only use it when away from base for e-mailing and suchlike but I tried it - so that Vaio sounds a bit knackered by comparison). ;-)

Just goes to prove that old adage:

"No one ever got fired for buying IBM"

AMD E-350
ATI 6310 shared memory
8192 MB RAM 3@1066
12.1" 1366x768 glare

just replace drive (using Paragon software Like I do, clone drive in latest version - 11)
built in is 320 GB@5400, I think Vertex 2 is all it needs.

I have a friend, he uses it as a DTR for 1080 footage editing in Premiere!
For a netbook it is very good, if you have money just buy Dell Allienware M11xR2

I went with an 11.6 HP notebook with an upgrade to 4GB of memory. Runs CS5 fine except I wouldn't use it for any editing of color; ok screen but not color accurate. 11.6", aside from more pixels than a 10.1", it also has a standard size keyboard.
