Have you noticed that every freaking photo mag, digital or film has the usual end of year Review of all cameras. I can see one issue, but it's going on the 3rd issue in a row for all of them with thier stupid repeative Round-Ups, Buyers Guide, Best Picks, Etc. NOTHING NEW! If you read one Buyers guide or Camera Year Review, yoy read them all. Every freaking mag, for the past 3 months have been milking this cr@p now! I am getting so sick of it. I wouldn't subscribe to any of them becuase they all basically suck, repeat the same articals, offer verry little useful information. Are they having a contest which Photo Mag can Suk The Most????

Am I alone on this observation???

Regards!

I generally agree.
The DV cam mags are the worst.

Shutterbug generally has very good articles though and technical evaluations. Outdoor Photographer is'nt too bad either.

Why go to the bother of creating editorial or technical content, if you can just cut and paste vendor camera specs onto the page?

Most of the one's I have seen (and not purchased), are the "buyers guides" at the newsstands. I think they are there as an impulse item for newbies thinking about taking the plunge to digicams.

Can't imagine anyone actually subscribing to these wastes.

Glad that real photog mags like Outdoor Photographer, actually put some useful information content in their issues.

I hear ya.

I like this page too but you can't exactly bring it with you in to the bathroom. What better time to flip thru a mag while sitting on the toilet?

I've enjoyed a lot of mags but lately most of them have taken the cheap lazy way out with repeative BS. Still a few good ones out there but the bad ones are growing in numbers, and just when you think they can't get any worse, they suprise you!

Actually, you can bring it into the bathroom... Ever hear of the Danger Sidekick? It's a great little web-browsing cell-phone that has a thumb-keyboard as well as it's own little 120x90 camera...

;^)

I buy from the kids selling at grade school. $14.00 for a years subscription. It's not even worth that. But to support the PTO it's worth $14.00 a year. The mag rags make interesting bathroom reading.

If you are checking out DPreview you're months ahead of camera mags anyway...I quit reading them years ago when I realized they didn't have the balls to give a bad review!

Every film is good according to them, year after year after year, I mean c'mon!!

Still nice to flip through em for the pics on the stand though!

I think you are dead on.

The internet is the best place nowadays. Magazines take months to get published. Right now they are working on the March issue which means they'll not cover PMA developments till June. Magazines prime purpose is to sell advertising. Advertizers tend to stick with them so if the magazine content fails or falls short they still advertize because, well they always have haven't they?

Stick to this site and related ones.

I've been an avid reader of Practical photography for almost a year now and find it WORLDS better than its American counterparts. Also, Photography Monthly is a new find. And Professional Photographer is one I anticipate reading if I can ever find one.

They are all British magazines!

I tried America's biggies (Pop Photo, Peterson's Photographic, American Photo, eDigital Photo, etc.) and they each let me down in some way or another. I think Peterson's the best American-made, but that's only relatively speaking.

and they still don't feature most of the new models introduced at Photokina...

One of them introduced Dimage 7i as a brand new camera, about a month after the Dimage 7Hi came out...

But they are cheap, colorful, have pictures, and sometimes they may have useful information.... I got a three magazine bundle from the web for under $15 (Pop Photo, Photographic, American Photo). I don't think I would pay full subscription prices...

All the annual buyer's guides and such as material pasted from their last few issues...

You missed Amateur Photographer. It's been going over 100 years, and I belive will last another 100. They don't try to compete with the Net, and have less reviews of gear. They concentrate on technique, theory, and protfolio's with about 1 camera and or lens per week reviewed. It's also a weekly, down to the fact they have listing of hundreds of used items.
