Kids frolicking in a river (40D + 400 f/5.6)

When we were kids, we tamed the sizzling Philippine summer by staying in our swimming holes all day. That was before I was exposed to electricity, TV, computers and the internet. :)

Very good shots. I think lots of people don't realize that this lens can be used for subjects other than birds, though it is great for that. I have used the 400 5.6L for golf tournaments and flowers. It really is good for lots of different subjects. You have given proof.

Thanks, Ka Mastah. We used to do that too, in the open waters of the sea near our place. Indeed everything changed after exposure to those conveniences.

Thanks, Jerry!

Agree this lens is great for other subjects, too.

This is another one of those times where somebody post some very nice pictures and gets no comments. And yet somebody else post some crappy pictures of their cat/dog and get 20 comments. This forum is weird sometimes. :|
exactly my thoughts :-) !

the crappier the pictures, the more comments you get

to the Op: fantastic pictures by the way
Thanks for posting your pictures. I liked them and think you did a good job.

Nice pictures! It gives me movitation to use the 40DS I just got for use at my Church in Chico CA. I will shooting alot of low light situations. Any suggestions for camera or mode settings. I used to use a Nikon film camera that was an advanced model in the Air Force, but have not used a advanced Digital SLR recently.

Well had I seen them when they were posted I would certainly have commented.

Great shots of a boys being boys. Makes me wish I was that age again!
Nice work!

Thank you. :)

I shoot manual most of the time. These images were shot in the afternoon and the light level was constantly changing (due to the moving clouds). I was shooting at ISO 400-800, f/5.6, and 1/400-1/640 sec. The key is exposing to the right to minimize noise.

If you'll be shooting mostly in low light, you might want to take a look at the Canon 5D Mark II or the Nikon D3 or D3s. :D

It's only been 2hrs and it is mid afternoon on a Friday in the country where the most members belong ?
It would be interesting to know the national composition of this forum. I see a lot of post from all over the world, which is part of what makes it so nice. I suspect that the USA, while the majority as far as a single country goes, may not make up as high of an over all percentage as you might think. Also I'll bet there are a lot of people that read this forum at work. I know I do.
Stats are here: http://www.dpreview.com/misc/advertising.asp#stats

The US has dominated the board since I can remember.
