And get back farther. That's the most important thing. That's a crowded below waste portrait. I make it 1m (about 3 feet) from top to bottom. With a 43mm lens on a 7D, that means you're at 1.9m (about 6 ft) from the subject. That only works for "surreal" fashion or "intimate" portraits. For conventional beauty, the ratio of head to body on a "forward leaning" post wants 3-4m (10-13ft) from camera to subject. The first thing that strikes me is her huge chin and fat face. Really the most important thing about beauty shot is the beauty part, meaning posing, face expression, make up, dressing, etc. I don't believe her face looks like that naturally. She can't see herself so you have to direct. Don't point the chin toward the camera. Don't show the nostrils to the camera.
Exactly. There's even a name for that sort of light: "sinister light".Then comes the light. I know you placed it to the camera's right, which is fine, except that she changed her head angle up. So you must raise the light up as well. If not, the light will go from bottom up, which is only used in movies to show horrors or super villains.
Yes, it was a typo. Waist, the part of the body.Joseph, what did you mean by "That's a crowded below waste portrait"? Was that a typo and you meant to write "WAIST" -- as in the part of the body where one's belt goes? If you meant to write "WASTE", please explain.
