I finally decided to purchase the NP 5700. US1 Camera store in NY has it for $947and advertise that this includes US Warranty.

http://www.us1camera.com/shop/Product.asp?sku=NIK5700

Has anyone had any experience with this store? I found them on cnet.com and they had a 3 star rating.

Thanks,
Loraine

US1Camera are scam artists supreme. run far away. I went to their site.

Biggest red flag is the price of their accessories. Two new scam tactics are that the scam artists are now raising their prices just close enough to look attractive, yet not too cheap to set off the scam alarm (people are becoming wise to that now) and posting bogus ratings email to generic sites like CNET to make them look good.

On any of these scam sites go to the policy section of the website and read order acceptance and warranty sections. If it says that an online order is not accepted without veification, then leave immediately. I have NEVER gotten a call from a reputable web site to verify an order on line. It's just a tactic to get you one the phone to sell you overpriced expensive accessories. Warranty section on their site actually says the warranty is good from 10 days from invoice. These sites usually invoice you the day that they "verify" your order. The "warranty" may expire before you actually receive the product.

Read the post at http://www.resellerratings.com as suggested, it will tell you all you need to know.

Lots of people have gotten theirs from http://www.cdw.com for just slightly over $1000. Very reputable firm. "ask for speoial price" is what most say. do a search for "CDW" in the forum. Others have ordered from Dell computers http://www.dell.com with either 10 or 15% off coupons and gotten very close to $1000 price.

Bottom line is that the camera costs dealers about $1000 from Nikon USA, if you see it for less then it is a scam. How long would anyone stay in business sellng items at a loss.

As I told another poster, USA warranty DOES NOT mean Nikon USA warranty. Since Nikon doesn't authorize anyone else to service their digital cameras, the "USA" warranty you get isn't worth the paper it's written on, period.

I got mine from a local camera shop for $1089. Very much worth the extra for me, because mine was defective. They happily replaced it with no hassle and the new one is perfect. Worth the extra money to me, because it could have cost me money and hassle to argue with someone via e-mail or phone to get them to accept it back for exchange. I walked in the door, they looked at it and handed me a new camera, it took all of a minute.

If a deal looks too good to be true it probably is!!!!!!!!

Good luck.

I looked at them and it is a usa warranty but not nikon usa manufacturers warranty. I just ordered at dbuys.com with manufacturers warranty. you may want to double check this if it matters to you. I have allways bought nikon warranty stuff but have never had a problem so i always wonder if it is necessary. but some say nikon usa will not work on grey market cameras...dont know if this is true though

--Hi Loraine
This is the best advice you can get, check out the prices on shoppers.com then go to http://www.resellerratings.com to check out the dealers rating. I am sure you can find a camera in this price range.
Good luck

I just got my cp4500 from US1Camera, about 2 weeks ago.
(bought into 3 stars rating and low price and a banner "USA warranty")
The camera itself performs great. I even got lucky hot-pixels-wise.

What I want to do is:

WITHIN 10 HOURS I WILL TAKE A PICTURE OF WARRANTY SHEET
and post it here. Then we can ask forum members for opinions.

For me it is little too late to do anything so I will resort to prayer :)
But for anyone who is yet to decide about ordering, let it help

Dear forum,
Here is a warranty card which came from US1 Camera.
Can someone please tell if it is in fact a "Nikon USA Warranty" card?
(it is 8 x 5.5 inches, black&white, nothing on a back)

Thanks in advance!

Cliff: I checked with Bizrate.com and they are OK. I wouldn't shop there because of the recent negative comments. eCost is selling the CP5700 for 1059.00 (shopping cart special). Just for the peace of mind I get, an extra $60 bucks is worth it.

Cliff: Looks like the same one that I have. You should also have a red product registration card. If you want to verify that it's a USA Nikon, call up Nikon tech support and ask them a question. They will ask you for your serial number. If it's a USA camera, the will help you. Nikon is pretty serious about grey market products. My local Nikon dealer said that Nikon will not repair (in warranty or out) any grey market camera. If you have proof that you purchased it in the country that it was supposed to be sold in, they will help you. Pretty strict, huh?

I bought my Nikon 5700 Locally from a dealer here in Cincinnati that I have done business with for 20 years so I'm suer it's a USA warranty. I have one B&W paper that says "Nikon Digital Imaging Limited Warranty" it goes on to say what is and is not covered for one year. It also says that this form and proof of purchase must be presented for warr. service. I also have another "Red" fold out paper with "White" NIKON letters. it is a warr. info form to send in but also tells how to register on the web.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for responses!

Yes, I do have red registration card too.

Calling Nikon support sounds like a perfect way to find out, I will do it.
Just need to make up some question! :)

I ordered from US1camera... and although their business practices were a little shady (I had to call them to confirm my internet order before they would ship... and they try to sell you accessories), I did receive the camera for the advertised price... and it was a full US retail box camera with US warranty card.

Cliff: My question to Nikon was "What settings does Nikon recommend I use when I put my CP5700 in the carrying case (camera bag)?" I was concerned about what would happen if the power switch happened to turn on by accident. I didn't want to damage the mechanism that moves the lens in and out.

The technican said that Nikon didn't recommend storing it's camera in any bag as Nikon doesn't have one authorized for the CP5700 (I didn't bring up the CS-E5700). I currently store my camera with the playback switch on and the power switch off. The CS-E5700 is a great camera case.

Wow that's a great question.
One I hadn't thought of. However I own a FUJI 4900 and accidently turned it on ( it too has enectronic telescoping lens) and in a very short time the lens barrel reversed and the camera shut off. I don't care to try that with my 5700 to find out.
