hi there,

i apologise in advance if this has been covered

a girlfriend has just purchased a 550D and wants to get into her photography properly, its her birthday coming up and was wondering what sort of accessories would be good to start getting her. she has the lens that came part of the kit and a case already.

ive looked around already but unsure about what would be useful

ive a budget of about £100

any help or ideas would be much appreciated

thanks

How about a 3rd party batterygrip, like Phottix brand?
You'll find these on ebay with 2 batteries for ca. EUR 60.

1. An extra battery is essential. I got a 3rd-party battery for $15 rather than the $40+ Canon, and so far no issues.

2. An additional SD card. Having a spare card means you can keep shooting while copying contents of the filled card to laptop. A Class10 16GB is a nice choice.

3. Does she like video and studio work? An AC adapter is great to have in that case, so you don't worry about draining the battery.

4. Does she like to 'live dangerously', and camera is likely to get some element exposure? Delkin Snug-it Pro skin does a good job giving camera a little extra protection.

5. A regular to mini HDMI cable will allow for instant photo/video review in high-def on any HDTV.

6. If she is into video, a decent external mike with a shock mount and a wind guard is great to have.

7. A hood for her lens. And a center-pinch lens cap that can be used easily with that hood.

8. A monopod.
