I'm looking for a printer stand for my 4900 which is coming next week. I was looking at the manual and they recommend that the printer be placed on a 53"x46" table. It looks like the actual dimensions of the printer stand at 26"x34" (see the manual, page 15: http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/pro49_/pro49_ug.pdf ) For the earlier models, people were suggesting the following two stands, but they spec out at 25 3/8", not the 26" needed:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90049200
or
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/14631607

I have a feeling that both of the tables above don't quite fit the dimensions of the 4900.

I'm not a wood guy so I'm not going to build one, can anyone recommend any tables that would be sturdy and give at least a few inches around the printer legs? I'm in NYC, so especially if it's local I'd like to get something before it's delivered.

Thanks!

The larger stand is large enough to hold the printer but will it stand up to the weight of the unit over time? Most likely it will cause the top to bow slightly and compromise the drawers. I would get a close look at the store, and maybe sit on the top. I am also in need of a stand for a 4880... a very heavy unit. I will let you know if I see anything. I like the size of the smaller unit. I'm thinking that it would support the printer and if the size of the table top is slightly too small I would unscrew it from the base and either add to if or replace it with another top.

You'll see this rolling kitchen island from Ikea recommended here and at Luminous Landscape:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90049200

The feet of the printer need 21w x 19d inches, but I'd be wary of getting a stand that just barely fits that footprint, especially if the stand is on casters. I'd worry about tipping the stand over while moving the printer if the wheelbase isn't stable enough. Be sure that whatever you buy can support over 125 lbs. The printer weighs 115 lbs. dry, but with a roll of paper onboard and the inevitability of setting stuff on the printer, you should look for some excess capacity.

The Ikea VÄRDE unit isn't available at my local Ikea store and the shipping is a full third of the cost of the unit if I buy online. There are other rolling kitchen islands out there. I'm currently using a desk but would like a rolling stand with drawers or shelves able to hold 17 x 22 boxes of paper. I don't think the Ikea VÄRDE's drawers are large enough.

The search continues. If you need something cheap and temporary, Costco has Lifetime 4' folding tables for under $40. That will support the 4900 at a decent working height until you find something suitable. I'll keep searching.

It seems like the 28" x 70" is plenty of room but doesn't have a lot of middle support. I think I'll go with that one for now - assuming there's room in my office. I'll probably add some supports in the middle to prevent the wear and tear.

However, I'm still open to ANY suggestions.

They are both 25 3/8" deep, which is about the standard depth for kitchen cabinets. The 28" you noticed is for the size of the package. I have this unit:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90049200

...which I use for a an Epson 3800, but people were recommending it for the 4800. The Varde cabinets are VERY sturdy. The legs are solid birch, and the top is solid butcher block about 1 1/4" thick.

I haven't seen a 4900, and I realize it's bigger and heavier than the 4800/4880, but I would have no qualms about standing (or sitting) on my Varde cabinet (I weigh in at about 200 lbs).

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to clean up the office tonight and see if I can make room for the 70 incher so at least I'll have a lil room to play with.

I live near an Ikea and they're heavily stocked. I don't get the printer until wednesday so it's all good.

Just another vote for the IKEA Varde cabinet. I use it for my Epson 3880, but I'm pretty sure that it would work for the 4900 as well. Very sturdy and feels solid. Drawers are great for paper up to 17x22 (but not Epson Signature Worthy paper which come in oversized boxes).

Wow man, thanks!

My desk is the only piece of furniture that's made of particle board in my house. I've always been a little bit on the side of caution with the quality of Ikea products but this site has sold me. I'll pick up the 70" one today.

If you're going to an Ikea, they'll have some set up that you can see before you buy. I know what you mean about Ikea and particle board The side panels and drawers on the Varde are particle board, but all the structural stuff is solid wood. I was pretty impressed with it.

Bring a friend, it's heavy!

I'm thinking of buying a Sear's tool roll around cabinet. It measures 34.5"H x 28"W x 25"D and has large rollers. Its made of steel and has 5 drawers. The printer would have no trouble with its 19" x 21" foot fitting on it. I know its not normally used inside the home but it might be a practical solution. I'm just not sure about the tip over possibility.

The smaller of the 2 tables you posted pictures of, which was also noted by another poster as being on the Luminous site, is a nice unit. I went to Ikea to inspect it shortly after reading your post, as I am also interested in the same for a 4880. It is sturdy and stable. The drawers extend way out, and there is a cross support not shown until you open the top draw. There shouldn't be any tipping issues with it. I plan to make the purchase.

I went with the wider Varde model. It took awhile to setup, and I wish the final sanding wasn't necessary, but it's now done and really makes my office look like a brand new place.

Thanks for the advice.

If you get a chance, I'd like to see a photo of the printer and new stand together to get a feel for spacial proportions, etc.

No problem. It's a great size.. I have about 3 or so feet next to the printer to work with. Printing has never been so nice :)

The printer is a monster in size. You'll want some space in back of the desk, so you might not be able to make the table flush against the wall.

I also added a couple hooks on the table for hanging up some cords. The space underneath the desk is perfect for my main camera bag. All and all, I'm VERY pleased with this stand.

Dear Jim:

The Epson 4000 base definitely works with the Epson 4880. I know this because I have Epson 4880 and it fits perfectly on my Epson 4000 stand. However, I do not know if the
dimension of the Epson 4900 and Epson 4880 are the same.

Best regards,

I have my 4880 on the 4000 stand also and since I'm moving up to the 4900 I called Epson support and asked them. The guy I talked to is using the 4000 stand for his new 4900 and he said it fits perfectly.

The Ikea solutions look great to me, but I like the rolling stand because it's easy to roll it back against the wall when I'm not using the printer. It saves a lot of space in my crowded studio.

Bob,

Did your new 4900 fit on the Epson 4000/4880 cart? If not, what did you end up using?
