thanks very much! Strange but these were my grandmother's favorite and I was never really fond of them but anymore I really enjoy them. This plant is now in its second year and going strong.

thank you, sir! We have some coming on that should be really red. If so, I'll post a shot for you. ;-)

They are so beautiful they almost don't look real.

Cheers,

thanks so much! I guess that is what happens when one gives a little TLC to one of nature's masterpieces. I was actúally afraid it was not going to come through the hard winter we had but once the first warm weather came, it started growing like crazy.

I appreciate you looking and commenting; thanks!

As I understand it, there are around 35-40 different varieties of peonies. These certainly do have a very open and delicate bloom.
BTW, have you shot any lotus recently?

and I love to shoot them,

but my problem these last few years is that I don't have a long telephoto lens ever since I gave my H5 away. They grow out on the water, and to get a good shot you need a good long lens.

Maybe this year I can rent a boat and get in among them, but it's hard to rent a boat when the light is good.

thanks so much! It was pretty windy when I shot these and I was happy with the results in spite of the wind. The old R1 is still a darn fine camera in my book.

thank you for your very kind comments! I'm waiting for our other peonie to bloom; it has quite a few buds and I think they will be a nice red. (not sure as this is the first year for it)

Nice job Gary, love the great colour that our all be it old but can't be beat R1 is well known for.

Alas the soil at my place is not suitable for growing them, but I love to see shots of them just the same.
regards Geoff

thanks ever so much! Maybe you could put one in a large planter. I did that with several plants around here. It also makes it possible to bring them into the patio for the winter.

Hi Gary,

Why don't you just throw that silly R1 away. Ha! Best Sony ever!! As a kid growing up in the 40s, I have fond memories of our flower beds full of peonies. In our neck of the woods the bloom was around Memorial Day. The flower of choice for our families departed. Great shots as always and I hope all is well! My mom would have loved your shots!

Regards,
Joel
