Best wedding wishes to Prince William and Kate Middleton

Blair and Brown weren't invited weheeeey :D
--
I don't believe any one from the USA is invited either. Maybe that's why only 6% in the US is even interested, despite the push by the US media. Or just that the US is not into this royal blue blood stuff.

--mamallama
You made your choice in 1776, when the French bailed you out!!! ;-)
--
Yes we did, and thankfully so. We repaid that debt to the French in 1944-45. Our diversity does not fit well adhering to the blue blood in control concept. Just look at our current head of government and state. :)

--mamallama
True enough, but Britain is very diverse these days and remember Kate is a commoner from a working class background, miners from about 1700's :-)
--
I understand that Kate is a commoner, a term I find somewhat degrading, at best. I wonder how would play out if Kate were a commoner of South Asian or African decent. Would it even be possible? After all, love knows no racial boundaries. At least I see that here in the US.

What would be your guess would happen if Kate were a commoner who happen to be Chinese, Korean or Japanese?

--mamallama
as long is she isn't Catholic i think it would be fine
I seriously dought that because the Royals are Protestants not Catholics...The Queen is the head of the Church of England, which has always been seen as the complete opposite of Catholisism, since the days of Henry VIII.
That why Blair was not invited, he converted to Catholicism.
more like him and his wife are horrendous individuals, nude painting of Cherie Blair anyone?
--
to me........to you
That seems distasteful (not the painting, but the reaction to it)
i find the man truly distasteful, he has caused thousands to die and suffer because of his actions,
Well, if you go back in history, it would be extremely difficult to find any world leaders or monarchs who do not fit your description.

More like King Deutsch of Berlin fame!...They are German!
It's so nice to see the old chestnut of the present Royal family being German appearing again.

Just for the sake of historical accuracy. The present Queen's great grandmother, Victoria, was wholly English, she married a German, Albert, and took his surname, Saxe-Coburg.
But queen Victorias grandfather (George III) was also German...He was the King of Hanover...Which is in Germany!
On another note, what is wrong with being German anyway? They have a fine tradition of music, architecture, painting...
They also have the not so fine traditions of invading other countries, slaugtering Jews, the mentally and/or physically handicapped and anyone else they did'nt like by the millions and of having no sense of humour.
When you say they, you are putting every German in this world in the same basket.

Your description of they is quite extraordinary, could you be friend to a German or accept one of your children to marry a German?

If you go back in history, most leaders and monarchs of this world would fit your description of invaders and butchers.

It would be sooooo convenient to have one group to blame for everything. You sure you don't want to change your mind on this? :D

I think it might be time to delete this forum from my bookmarks. I have never seen so many opinionated people in my life. Shame on you all.
Quite agree.

As a Photography News Discussion Forum - it's almost a complete waste of time.

No offense but you two guys have just plain lost it.

95 percent of all the threads on this forum are strictly about photography and photographic problems, yet BOTH of you act as if you have no choice but to read threads that are off topic; as if the world is not meaningful to a photographer.

Apparently photographers are not a part of the real world.

Sorry, but the real world is what photography is all about, and the last time I checked NO ONE IS FORCING ANYONE TO READ THESE THREADS!

No one. Yet from the way you talk, the only thing in life that is relevant is taking pcitures of flowers.

Well that's nice. I have two ongoing flower threads that I started, and I wont force either of you to look at them either.

Grow Up! There is a real world and I personally like to BOTH discuss AND photograph it.

It appears to me that you are the one who is 'losing it'.

That's your interpretation - not ours.

Photography is about whatever any individual photographer chooses.

This forum is for discussing Photography News - it is not for discussing World News and World Politics.
Yet from the way you talk, the only thing in life that is relevant is taking pcitures of flowers.
No - that's 100%, completely, and entirely, of your invention.
Well that's nice. I have two ongoing flower threads that I started, and I wont force either of you to look at them either.
Do enjoy your flower threads - please excuse us if we don't join in.
Grow Up! There is a real world and I personally like to BOTH discuss AND photograph it.
Nobody is stopping you, as long as you stick to discussing photography.

Discussing entirely unrelated World News, and Politics, is against the forum rules - and we are perfectly entitled to say so.

This is not a Challenge. Maybe you would like to share your photos of this wedding celebration with the Commonwealth and the world. Photos of the street parade, or of London’s decorations. I doubt we'd be lucky to have any photos from inside the church? (Or the next day’s hangover) Sorry, I won’t be there to have any photos to contribute, but I hope members will share photos on this thread.
The wedding has been over for hours and I don't think anyone has yet posted their photo of this wedding as the OP requested. There's still about 39 posts left so the highjackers and complainers have left room for your pictures of this beautiful wedding.

If each time you find something around you that you don't like, you get tense and want to remove it from your world and those who are relax about it should cope the "Shame on you" brush that you are quick to paint everybody, then you must have a sad life.
Quite agree.

There are two things, photography is not something you can cage in a box, there are too many things in this world which are related to photography.

The other one, DPR is one of the most popular forums around, they must be doing something right, so I don't think over policing would get so many clicks on DPR.

Some here should take some communication lesson from Iliah Borg. He is the master at responding to any post with 2 or 3 lines.

What is this one, around 400 words, that's a lot of words to make a point.
I don't know how many here who have the stamina to read such long post.

why do you care ?
Exactly, if you don't like a thread, just ignore it and move on.
If you don't like my observations/opinions - why haven't you just ignored them, and moved on?

Perhaps you should heed your own advice.
You are the one complaining here not me. If you walk in any area, you don't like what you see, or the conversation that you hear, you walk out and never come again, you don't throw insult around.

Or should take just a communication lesson - period. With that 400+ word diatribe that makes no particular point, he probably posted more non-photography words than anyone else on this thread.

Now rambling like that is the definition of Complete Waste of Time . Did anyone here read it through?

....again how inane, childish and stupid ,theyvcan be. The OP asked posters to show images they had taken from yesterday's great occasion. If you weren't interested in this subject then why not ignore the post and move on. But no the sad little detractors have to their penny's worthbin with some age old, unhumorous, spiteful comment. It just shows how small and jealous some members on this forum are and it makes me sad that I can't be a member if a grown uo sophisticated group.

I didn't getcany pictures of thecwedding, but I got loads of our fantastic street party here in west London. We had a brilliant day with food, fun, games, drink and three live bands. I took loads of pictures and when processed will put them on a site for my neighbours to enjoy. But I won't post them here for I know the usual idiots who have already shown their faces will ruin the thread.

It's a sad day unfortunatey for some, but to all those who watched the wedding and enjoyed the day, I send you my wishes.

Her son, King Edward, married Alexandra who was Danish. Their son, King George V married Mary of Teck, who was German. Their second son, who became George VI, married Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon who was wholly Scots. Therefore the most 'German' the present Queen can be is less than 35%. Her son, Charles, married Diana, who again was wholly English, so by far the greater part of William's bloodline is not German. Given that Kate Middleton is also English any children of theirs will be even less German.

On another note, what is wrong with being German anyway? They have a fine tradition of music, architecture, and painting, the many I have met have been lovely people. They were unfortunate enough for a big enough minority to fall under the spell of an Austrian fanatic, which allowed him to seize power, who then led them to almost utter destruction. Again, do not judge people as a nation, but as individuals.

They are all German or German invaders or Anglo Saxons from Germany. German the lot of them. Well maybe a touch of Viking. The only true Britons are the Welsh and Scots.

Read about midway in this April 24 article and see the 6% interest figure I cited:

http://caveviews.blogs.com/cave_news/2011/04/yawn-little-us-interest-in-royal-wedding.html

I know it might seem strange to you but most Americans aren't as ga-ga over that royalty stuff as you in Britain are. Prior to the day of the wedding itself, the most interest I saw was the Las Vegas sports book odds on the color of the hat the queen would wear. I think the color black was listed as 10,000:1. ;)

Bringing back this thread to photography, yet keeping the royal theme, today - Saturday 30th April - is 'Koninginnedag', Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands' official birthday. It is a day that most people not having to work will celebrate with street parties, heavy boozy sessions in the pubs and cafés - and lots of orange everywhere. I plan to take my old Canon 400D into town and take some snaps. It is a warm, bright day, so I expect millions to be crowding the many open air cafes in the towns and villages all over the country.

If I take anything worthwhile, I might post. However, as I am likely to be caught up in the celebrations, no amount of Canon IS on the lens is likely to save the day.

Proost!

Andrew

Unavoidable personally I find a discussion of the royals as irrelevant to most people that's being polite. In these difficult times it's completely understandable that they will be the target of criticism a fortune spent on one wedding when some people are living in poverty..does in fact leave a bad taste in the mouth. And that's before we get into the class debate argument ;-)

As you made a Cameron post all we need now is a Nick Clegg one to round the thread off nicely!
