Best wedding wishes to Prince William and Kate Middleton

But Cornwall is just a County of England, not a seperate Country...Or did'nt you get the memo?
The Cornish accept that Cornwall is a County of England, however they are not, and never have been English; no more than the Irish, Welsh or Scots are. In fact it has been proved by DNA testing that the original Cornish race are most closely related to the Bretons in France, who likewise accept that Brittany is part of France, but are not themselves French; and the Portuguese.

Perhaps but it did'nt stop them getting their ass kicked by the Romans...Not something you can say about the Scots. ;)

Blair and Brown weren't invited weheeeey :D

I don't believe any one from the USA is invited either. Maybe that's why only 6% in the US is even interested, despite the push by the US media. Or just that the US is not into this royal blue blood stuff.

--mamallama
You made your choice in 1776, when the French bailed you out!!! ;-)
--
Yes we did, and thankfully so. We repaid that debt to the French in 1944-45. Our diversity does not fit well adhering to the blue blood in control concept. Just look at our current head of government and state. :)

--mamallama
True enough, but Britain is very diverse these days and remember Kate is a commoner from a working class background, miners from about 1700's :-)
--
I understand that Kate is a commoner, a term I find somewhat degrading, at best. I wonder how would play out if Kate were a commoner of South Asian or African decent. Would it even be possible? After all, love knows no racial boundaries. At least I see that here in the US.

What would be your guess would happen if Kate were a commoner who happen to be Chinese, Korean or Japanese?

--mamallama
as long is she isn't Catholic i think it would be fine
I seriously dought that because the Royals are Protestants not Catholics...The Queen is the head of the Church of England, which has always been seen as the complete opposite of Catholisism, since the days of Henry VIII.

the Act of settlement would stop a non protestant any chance of succession to the throne

Don't you kid yourself. The Mall is stiff with Yanks today, there's no room for a Brit to squeeze in sideways. It's like 1776 never happened; they are all more committed royalists than we are!

Just for the sake of historical accuracy. The present Queen's great grandmother, Victoria, was wholly English, she married a German, Albert, and took his surname, Saxe-Coburg.
Victoria was the daughter of Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Edward Duke of Kent, fourth son of GEORGE III who was the descendent of Hanovarians. When Victoria married Albert, she married her cousin. Wholly English?
Her son, King Edward, married Alexandra who was Danish. Their son, King George V married Mary of Teck, who was German. Their second son, who became George VI, married Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon who was wholly Scots. Therefore the most 'German' the present Queen can be is less than 35%.
About right, but don't forget, she married a half Greek, half Danish prince, named Philip.
Her son, Charles, married Diana, who again was wholly English, so by far the greater part of William's bloodline is not German. Given that Kate Middleton is also English any children of theirs will be even less German.
Well, William is indeed perhaps the most English monarch we will ever get, until one of his children is crowned. Sure to please the Scots.
On another note, what is wrong with being German anyway? They have a fine tradition of music, architecture, and painting, the many I have met have been lovely people. They were unfortunate enough for a big enough minority to fall under the spell of an Austrian fanatic, which allowed him to seize power, who then led them to almost utter destruction. Again, do not judge people as a nation, but as individuals.
Nothing against them at all, or the Danes, Scots, Greeks and Dutch royals that have contributed. Just glad that the gene pool has expanded in recent years.

By the way, I was born in Porthcurno, but sadly can't claim any Cornish genes.

Sheesh! Does this kid look "wholesome" or what? Hard to believe she's going to be the Mother of the Anti-Christ. But if Beck confirms my suspicions, what can I say?

He's been predicting the imminent arrival, and, err, look at the timing?

And you are aware (And I'm not making this up) that some Christian Fundamentalists here regard the British Royal Family as being directly decended from King David of Biblical fame.
Didn't some in the past believe that the French royals descended from Mary Magdalena and Christ? With Fundamentalist, whichever religion they are from, they are all nuts and dangerous.

The OZ Prime Minister was among the guests, but I have not seen any Prime Minister from any European countries, that's odd considering England is part of Europe.

That why Blair was not invited, he converted to Catholicism.

This is not a Challenge. Maybe you would like to share your photos of this wedding celebration with the Commonwealth and the world. Photos of the street parade, or of London’s decorations. I doubt we'd be lucky to have any photos from inside the church? (Or the next day’s hangover) Sorry, I won’t be there to have any photos to contribute, but I hope members will share photos on this thread.
Almost all of the messages in this thread are about nationalism & politics - and absolutely nothing to do with photography.

A message thread discussing the American President and U.S. constitution was very swiftly locked & deleted just a couple of days ago.

So why is this discussion thread allowed to continue?

It's so nice to see the old chestnut of the present Royal family being German appearing again.

They are all German or German invaders or Anglo Saxons from Germany. German the lot of them. Well maybe a touch of Viking. The only true Britons are the Welsh and Scots.
would that be the same SCOTTS who invade northern Britain From northern Ireland about 800 AD ?

The UK may be part of a European Political Area BUT England(and the UK) is not part of Europe it is AN island OF Europe (a Continent)
you can keep Europe we dont want it :D
