Challenge #7 - CHAT - Motion

I'm walking through my metal shop today... and I pass one of the guy's grinding. So I think to myself... man that would be a good motion picture!!!
Nice shot.... and I guess I will need to be faster next time (lol)

Doug, I work in a shop where I might get such a shot or close, as an inspector so it allows me to take the camera with me into work. Shoot my camera is with me when I walk out this door without exception. But if I tred to take a picture like Larrys shot in the shop I'm afraid it would be frowned upon, big time. Maybe not by the worker, but policy in most factorys is zero pictures. Afraid of competition I suppose. I do like Larrys opening salvo however.

Aloha Paul,

I doubt if either of those 'movements' have 'moved' in the last half-century. (But I had to try winding them to see.)

I opened the back of one & a little wheel came falling out. Now if I had only been quick enough to capture THAT motion..... :-)

Larry's picture is very nice, but the EXIF data shows it to have been taken in 2001? Doesn't that place it out of consideration for the challenge? Or am I reading the data incorrectly?

Hmmmm.....Me thnks you're right, Doc...looks like the photo was shot in December, 2001. I guess Larry didn't realize the rules.

Dang..hate it when people read the fine print ;)

Jim;

Thanks for the heads up... and I could not agree with you more. But in my case I don't think it will be a problem... or it better not. "I own the company"

Bin:

A nice photo, but you took it this Summer? That would not qualify for the Challenge, I'm afraid. Also, I did not see the EXIF data.

Thanks Frank. It is taken here in Vancouver. We have 3 good bridges to shoot from. This one is taken from the middle of Cambie Street Bridge. Usually this side is better for sunset shots (I missed a really nice sunrise photo from the other side of the bridge). Only problem is that even with using a tripod on the bridge, you still get camera shake from the big trucks and cars. You actually get people shake from the big trucks. So, I often have to take about 4-5 pics of the same settings to get a photo with minimal camera shake.

I have another photo from the same morning here:

It is a nice photo. You'll never get that one again prolly. I caught this one totally by accident on BSS (I was shooting at low light from my stairway through a skylight) and didn't know about the bird until I looked at the photo on the computer:

From the looks of this it's going to be a tough one..
LOL Haven't we said this about every other challenge? And I might add with good reason! I believe alot of people like action or movement shots though, if for no other reason than to stretch the envelope, see how far the cameras abilities can be pushed. Shoot with all the abuse digicams take for supposedly not being able to capture action shots, shutter lag you know, well it's good to see so many prove that silly notion wrong. Have you seen Peters entry? I have one thing to say about that shot lol...fantastic!
