Hi all:

I just created a Pbase gallery of pictures I took with my new C5050. I set up some test objects and lighting, and then varied one setting at a time.

ISO 64, F4.5, 1/15 exposure, tripod, used the remote to keep from jiggling.

The light was a mixture of one compact fluorescent overhead, one halogen torchiere, and one incandescent 60 watt spot. The camera seemed to do pretty well with the white balance.

I varied the sharpness from +5 through -5, and then I varied the saturation and contrast (just + -5 each). The photos are named accordingly.

I will do some more testing with different settings later.

Hope this is of help to others trying to evaluate the C5050!

Cheers,

Kevin.

Thanks for posting these, they are so much better and it gives a better insight of what the 5050 is capable of.

Thanks Alfred, Russell:

I'll try to do more today, with more light -- as always, the quality is poorer with less light hitting the sensor.

I'd be happy to do other variations and combinations -- any suggestions? Noise reduction? Flash? Higher ISO?

It would be interesting to see what the "auto-bracket" feature does. I think you can choose 3 or 5 shots, with a couple of different adjustment factors, but I'm not sure if those are linked or separate settings. For some people, especially where time is a factor, that might be more "useful" than manually adjusting things and trying to get the same shot N times in a row.

I'll do it, thanks for the suggestion Doug.

Oh, and thanks for linking me up to your site(s)-- I meant to write
to you last night but it got really late and I crashed.
No problem. Regarding the test images, well, I'd like to know exactly how the noise situation, CA and low light performance of the 5050 is with respect to the predecessor (the 4040).

But I'll probably have to wait until I get a 5050 in early December and then I'll do some precise tests. I'll post the results.
