You won't be able to tell from it's banged-up exterior, but my six-year old istDS still works good as new!

Some IR images from a recent road trip (DS+Kit lens+Hoya R72)-

Maybe by next year I can move up to a K5 (still have my K10). Sure hope Pentax still builds them like they used to. :)

In order to shoot IR with the istDS, due you need to prep the camera (remove filters), or simply use the Hoya IR filters?

An un-modified istDS (like what I am using) has a relatively weak IR filter. These shots with a Hoya R72 filter needed only about 3 to 5 seconds shutter speed at f/10. Ofcourse, you need to get a custom WB before the shoot and several steps of PP.

Ah well, these are actually false-color IR shots. The original RAW files did undergo several steps PP. As for me, I'm not really fond of shooting IR pics of people.

I sold my Ds today.

Apparently a 13 year old will be very happy.

What's the point of havin' a rapier wit if I can't use it to stab people?

I have a K20D and a K-5 . . . and still use my ist DS, especially when I need to travel especially light or go into situations fraught with potential danger to a camera, such as canoeing or kayaking. The goold old DS just keeps soldiering on.
I have a W80 for light and waterproofness when kayaking.

The IR and PP make believe colorscheme is really attractive, metal greys, creamy whites foilage of the trees.. A metallc blue grey sky, clouds that just pop off the screen.. That quality of 3 dimensionality fascinates..
I like the blocky squarish form of the church, the compostion is perfect, the color tones in the stone are powerful time laden dripping with atmosphere. The sky sits back behind the foreground giving a proper feeling of depth foreground and background.. finally the empty space infront of the building a creamy white expanse with hedge make an attractive border, that tonal area is nicely matched and strengthened by the lace like trees.. Great, love it!
3 A strong diagonal line in portrait orientation leading down the frame, Infinite variations of texture planes upward thrusts in the lamppost and the walle, all lead the eye through the image, to finish at the center with the two portices opening out to the outer world beyond. A cloud peaks up in the space at the end of the line to soften the terminus of the diagonal sweep.
Classic composition, made more simple by the reduced color scheme,, that tone in the stone just fascinates like dry bones... The church doors open out at the center of the image a powerful magnet for believers..
Maybe by next year I can move up to a K5 (still have my K10). Sure hope Pentax still builds them like they used to. :)

Yep. Another reason I can't let go is I'm already trying to get my son interested in to photography too.

Thanks! Glad you liked them. I agree that this type of treatment doesn't work for all situations.
