Here a fast try in the garden with this combination.
Hand held.. a lot of shake.. but. I'm really impressed!
Any CC is welcome.

I'm new to the A55, but looks really good to me! Also have read a lot of comments on the lens focus noise in video mode, but this is the first time I've heard it!!! Wonder if the motor noise is noticeable in regular room noise...

the Minolta 50mm Macro emit a strong noise, for me, the best solution is to use an external microphone.

That worked nicely. Looked like there might have been a little breeze, but you still managed to keep the spider in focus most of the time. Catching the movement and scare tactics at the end was cool!

Question: What do you do all week?
Answer: Mon to Fri. Nothing, Sat & Sun I rest!

I'm really not much of a video fan, but I must admit--that was a neat little clip. You really gave the little guy a lot of personallity. Out of curiosity, what aperture were you using--DOF looked pretty shallow. Also, were you using the autofocus or focusing by moving camera position?--

You actually answered the second question, obviously you are using auto focus or I wouldn't be hearing the lens refocusing.

The Minolta AF 50mm F2.8 MACRO have a really little DOF, expecially at 1:1 distance!

With the Sony A350 the autofocus is slow and hunting in and out many times, but with the A55 is very fast and precise!
Very good result for photos, not perfect for video at 1:1 distance hand held.
here a photo crop 100% of the same spider:
