I am having a hard time choosing the right flash for my D90. I am trying to balance the price without loosing many functions. Below are the three contenders.
1. Nikon SB-600
2. Sigma 530 DG Super
3. Nissin Di622 Mark II

If you feel there is one I am missing please let me know. One thing I know it has to have red eye and powwr zoom.

Just noticed that B&H has the USA version of the SB600 listed as "Discontinued."

For the D90, you probably want the SB700 anyway (for it's DX detection). Must admit though, the SB800 works great on the D80 & D7000 without that feature.

OK I will have to check price and add it to the list.
Agree SB-700 would be the choice now. Slightly less power when looked at in watt seconds but the focusing and DX detection concentrate it right where you need it.

There are a number of rather confusingly named models. To be honest, I did have one and it wasn't bad at all from a performance point of view but understanding the manual was almost impossible. Also it had to be on the camera to set it properly.

You might check out the Metz series of flashes. Quality is very good and 100% CLS compatible.

I just picked up a Nikon sb-600 on Saturday from a Best Buy. A few still have one or two for $219.

I've read that the 600 has more power than the new sb-700 but like a previous poster, I have read that the 700 works better with the d90.

But is spending the extra hundred over the 600 worth it? Only you can answer that question.

good luck,
john

People will keep quoting guide numbers without specifying the units - even the manufacturers - very sloppy and very irritating! GNs should always be quoted as m of f (metres or feet) and be measured at ISO=100 and for a lens of specific focal length (usually 35mm).

I think the Metz is 50m, say about 150f - which is quite high.

Regarding your other question about which model Sigma I had it was the Super NaiTTL but the awfulness of the manual refers to all of the models. In fact I think all the models were covered by the same manual (which did not aid understanding!).

I see the Metz 50 but it has a guide number of 50 which I thought was a bit on the low side compared to others. Or did I get that wrong?

I think this is a harder decision than buying the D90.
