You are still lucky in the USA to get it today for US$499. There is no way in Australia to buy it at that price even from China (HK) and the warranty involves sending it back to China (HK) if a problem arises. I got mine a month ago for about $480 on eBay Australia from HK but prices is now around US$570 delivered. My guess is grab it while you can as things are getting worse in Japan not better and that will likely escalate the price even more.

And recommended retail price in Europe is £539, which is approximately $880!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got mine from Amazon for £360 ($588) a few weeks ago and the day after I ordered it, it went up to £399!

I love the camera, it feels so friendly, but is a little wasted on me at the moment, cos I'm only using P mode or auto..... will learn eventually!

... is different ... compact cam prices are still relatively stable ... G12 = 450€ ... but the 5DII raised from 1850.- to 2000.- :-(

If you type a colon and then a right parenthesis, the software will interpret that as a smiley icon. Like this :)

Ordered mine yesterday from Abe's of Maine, a reputable online retailer - I bought my S95 from them as well.

Offered at $489, enter promo code "LOYALTY15" and save additional $15,
thus $474.

supply is getting low.
Being that they're made in China... why should the situation in Japan have affected the supply?

When times are tough good quality goods hold their value, and the G-series has a proven respectable record.

I WAS waiting for a Nikon small mirrorless camera last summer to compliment my other nikon speedlites, cables, and NX2 software, but I decided to get the P7000 until the mirrorless system came along. After returning my 3rd piece of crap P7000 I instead "invested" in a G12. Since then the P7000 prices have plunged, but the G12 prices remained stable and now seem to be climbing. The G12 is like a gold bar that takes pictures. Just my "not so humble opinion" :)

Mine has "Made in Japan" printed on the bottom of it. Are you quite sure of your China "facts"?

I was checking the price just before my fight to NY, it was 430$.15 hours later I was at the counter and had to pay 480, few days later it went to 500.

Mine also has "Made in Japan" sticker

No, not at all.

I don't have a G12, I have a G11.

So I ASSumed... LOL ;-)

My G11 was made in China, I thought the G12 was too. I guess they are going to be made in China after this though... :-(

Damn, I guess I should have gotten one when I had the chance...

I walked into my local Best Buy yesterday just as the worker lady was marking a new G12 down to $279. I asked her why so low a price, she just shrugged her shoulders so I bought it. Lucky me, right?

Just kidding. But you wait, somebody soon is going to have the yearly "I just strolled into a Best Buy and got an S95 for $199" or G12 for $189 or whatever story. We'll all ask which Best Buy was that and on and on. Whenever I hear that yearly story I now make it a point to NOT go to a Best Buy thinking I'm going to get the same deal.

I just bought one in Best Buy this weekend...yes it was $499, but with the 12% discount coupon they regularly mail out to their Reward card holders, I got it for $439, and no sales tax as I was in NH. I thought that was a good deal, and I get 45 day return policy with no restocking fees to worry about.

I have to say, I do like this camera....perfect for trips where I don't want to lug around my DSLR.
