Im curious to whether spending £130 for the CCD-RAW File converter EX which produces TIFF 16 bit data unlike LE providing only TIFF 8 bit would drastically make any difference in output quality.

I like the idea of having the conversion parameters (tone, sharpness, colour, white balance and sensitization) available on your PC whilst shooting via Firewire/IE1394 as a raw image with EX but Im sceptical of the difference in quality.

Can anyone vouch for this piece of kit

Kind regards

I wouldn't do it, use Bibble or Qimage Pro instead! And probably within the next couple of months you'll see a great photoshop plugin too!

Welcome to the crowd, enjoy the S2!

Martin,

I find 16 bit files essential for serious color corrections. However, concerning which converter to use has been argued and discussed extensively in these forums and the bottom line is that some prefer one, some another and others another still. I only have the EX and Qimage and prefer Qimage. Plus if you are buying either, Qimage is alot less. It is also the best printing program to use for printing multiple files on one sheet. However, even though Mike denies it, the interface is difficult to understand and takes awhile to get used to it. Once I did get it down however, I now find I use it for many other applications like resampling and white balance, as well as converting and printing from.

I have taken your advice danz and just downloaded qimage, on first impressions it looks excellent, straight forward and very suitable for S2 work with reference/ checkbox to 16 bit raw files, nice!

Will test tomorrow, your using the 1280 i would be interested in knowing why, thanks Martin
