I read on Gerd Waloszek's GCR pages (an excellent resource for new GXR owners), that the Snap-Focus change to the firmware was made due to the request of some consumer.

I have an idea for a very simple firmware change that I would like to see if I can get implemented. Its actually such an obvious change that I am surprised that it isn't already in the camera.

On Setup-> "PlayBack Screen", you have the option to select the LCD or the VF. It seems to me that there should also be an option to playback via whatever display you happen to be using. So if I am shooting via the LCD, it will playback via the LCD. And if I am using the VF it will playback via the VF. It seems to me that this would be the option that most everyone would use.

So, does anyone know how I can contact Ricoh to make this request?

Hi Michael,

Perhaps you should contact Pavel Kudrys (odklizec) at Ricohforum ( http://ricohforum.com/ ). He is in contact with Ricoh and might forward your proposals.
Best regards, Gerd

If you don't mind I forwared your request to Ricoh Europe.
Was this a public address or something personal?

Because I would love to get my request for a way to switch the direct and adj buttons sent somewhere where it might actually get read:

Here are two more proposals for the GXR and the GRDIII:

1)

I wonder why there is no bulb mode feature implemented in the two cameras. It would be very easy to include and it would add extra value and creativity. I would like to do some very long exposure pictures at night (or dawn) which show the movement of stars.

2)

When using the CX4 I loved the "toy camera" scene mode. I wonder why this was not included with the last GRDIII firmware update.

HI,

Could be an option....but not one I (and most I know) would use. Most I know prefer to shoot with a VF and review on the LCD.

Anyhoo....horses for courses and all.

Happy shooting

Oliver

ps: Scarily, I have mostly been using my GX200 lately!! Mad I know!! Come on Ricoh....a damn short HQ tele PLEASE!!

I will bring this up next time I speak with Ricoh, not sure why they have not included it.

Ricoh sees the GRD line as their pro and high end line even above the GXR so this is probably why they want to keep it more professional and don't consider the toy mode appropriate for it.

Great! :-)
You are in direct contact with Ricoh?

Yes, I understand. But I wonder why the "cross mode" was included...

Maybe the cross mode could be used up to "simulate" the toy cam mode if Ricoh includes color options (very very strong saturation) and image distortion as extra options for cross mode. Then images would look like taken with the toy cam mode...

Yes, yes, yes!

A bulb mode would be most appreciated. This is one feature that has kept me on the sidelines to purchasing the GXR. It is not a deal breaker but would certainly add to its usefulness, at least for me.

I think there are two use cases here, and you may be only considering the second one.

When you are not taking pictures, and you are just looking at ones you have already taken, then of course it generally makes more sense to view them on the LCD.

However, if you are taking a shot with the VF, and you would like to quickly review the exposure or composition on your last shot, would you rather remove the camera from your eye to see it on the LCD or just do a quick tap on the review button without moving the camera?

Personally, I would rather hit the VF/LCD once when I am going to spend time reviewing pictures, then have to hit it each time I want to review a shot during picture taking.

For someone who never looks at their shots during picture taking, the LCD review probably makes more sense, but for someone who likes to look at their shots sometimes (particularly someone who doesn't have the picture show up after taking it), it might be more useful to have the review show up where you took the picture.

Regards.
