HI!

Currently I'm using a Canon Powershot S5 IS. Now, I want to enter into the world of SLR. Please suggest me a good entry level SLR. Or is it better to buy a used SLR like the canon 400D? I frequently take indoor shots. Thanks in advance.

Newer DSLR's generally have lower noise at high ISO's than older ones so if you shoot a lot indoors I'd go with a new model. Nikon, Canon, Pentax, and Sony all make good entry level cameras that are similar in quality. Do some online research and then go to a store where you can handle the ones that interest you. Pick the one that feels best in your hands, has controls that you like, and offers all the doodads that you want. Those things are more important than the name on the camera.

Are you really thinking that a forum full of people will anywhere near agree on what you should buy? If there was one best camera, everyone would own it and all the others would go out of business.

Why do you want to enter the SLR world? I would think that if entering the SLR world was important to you, it might be worth doing the research needed to choose one. Research does not mean asking a beginners forum what you should buy based on you liking to shoot indoor shots. DPReview and other sites have tools to help you research cameras. The answers you generally get from asking the way you asked will be people responding with what they own and like. Most of the people on a beginner's forum have only the experience with one or maybe two cameras and usually just one brand.

I'd start by narrrowing down your budget and the feature set that is important to you. Then go to a camera store and look at those models on your short liist. Come back here and ask about the one, two or at best three you've narrowed it down to.

If you have the budget I'd get a new camera.

Dpreview reviews cameras. Below are links to the conclusion page for a few beginner models that this site has reviewed so you can start your research.

Nikon has also anounced a new model, d5100, which is a step up from the d3100.

The Canon 600d/T3i has just come out but has not yet been reviewed.

You might also want to look at Pentax K-x and K-r.

I'm very much a beginer too, I've started with the Cannon 1000D mostly due to the price, I've loved it, great for learning all the basics.
