Yes.. fine .. and many thanks for a thoughtful reply. It does seem that there is not such a major difference in the basic elements of the two versions..early and later .. and I do have a high regard for the lovely quality of construction of the PEN-1/2 versions over the EP's.. this I've seen mentioned in a few of the available Reviews .. I love the feel and handling of the "full" versions for want of a better description and taking all into account I really wonder if the cost of any change as it is here in old rip-off UK is really worth it at this stage. Maybe we SHALL see yet another leap of a kind in the quite near future.Hi Eric
Interesting I did own the E-P1 when it first came out. If you recall it was at a time that Olympus was not known for good ISO results, plus strong AA filters. The E-P1 images were just in a class of its own at the time of its launch. I am sure it still delivers top class images as things did not change that much....
What did change more is Olympus turning their back on the typical pixel race / tech type hype seen in the industry today. At first not so clear to spot but now much better I think.
That said the E-PL2 rightly mentioned by somebody is still just a 12MP PEN. What developed in leaps and bounds is the creative capability of the PEN line and the E-PL2 is giving us a hint into what is coming I think.
As I said a number of times, the ability one have with the E-PL2 to access unique and advance functions and to then start playing or experimenting by selecting different combinations has never been possible.
Just think one can decide to have a unique program mode A JPEG output that consist of a scaled iEnhance plus contrast, saturation, sharpness and graduation and one already moving to a unique result. Add to that numerous possibilities while shooting and it becomes even better. Then one can move to program mode P, S each with its own sets of outputs. No wonder Oly decided to offer the user no less then 5 user sets...
Just a comment on ART filters. I will put it harsh. I know the m4/3 purist think ART filters are only for sissies...Let them continue to study images on pixel level, we need them in terms of counting jaggies and to feed that back to the development team.
I regard myself as an artist and in that sense I found the ART filter to be a awesome tool. Ad to that the really awesome flexibility Oly has added to the (E-P2) ART filter and the sky is the limit. I think its only the start and to practice now will prepare you for the next gen ART filter. Have you tried the Diorama filter yet?
Long reply, hope it has value
