Recently I posted a portrait of this very kind man and found him
back today and made a new portrait (on te street) and also one of
his dog. To finish two other pictures of this short late afternoon session
on a grey day with fog but it turned out not bad for these pictures
I think.

Dirk,

I really like this one for its nice tone and composition also. Can you share your thought when you compose/crop this shot the way it is displayed?

Thanks,
The'

Hi Tran,

Thanks very much for your appreciation. I very rarely crop my images as I mostly try to get what I want in the picture and composing when shooting. Hard to say on what I'm thinking as mostly there are only fractions of seconds for taking these pictures, it's more intuitive I think. The man was telling a whole story but I didn't know what he was speaking about as I'm to concentrated in concentrating on my settings, avoid camera shake and composing the images. If you are interested here you can see some more and the original in full color,of him that day:

Thanks for the link, Dirk. The color version is nice too. For me, it says a lot, perhaps, about his hardship in in his life. It would be an interesting story to hear?

Or, perhaps I am reading too much into the picture :-)) Anyway, that's the impression it gave me.

Excellent work Dirk, and that first picture of the man is spectacular. Like The' said, it gives you an impression on this guy and leaves you wanting to learn more.

Hi Tran,

Thanks again and he lives there in one of the rare poor areas here, he gives me his address and I will give him some color prints later and have a talk with him, he's very very friendly and his eyes are looking much younger then the rest and are full of life and joy. The dog's portrait was from his dog. I'm also interesed in what he has to say and will post more if I contacted him in the future. Here is the first picture that I made when I met him for the first time a few weeks ago (was not sure if I posted that one here):

Dirk, I compared the original portrait of the old man and the one you posted, I love the way you reduced the color, it added greatly to the man's expression and the mood.
Thanks for sharing.

what a character the man's face displays. And I don't want to know what the poor dog is suffering from, his eye is really yuckie with .. well it's yuckie. Poor thing.

Hi Xin,

Thanks very much and I didn't like the colors to much, especially from his coat so I thought that desaturating could help to bring the expression in front. All the very best.

Dirk, That's a most amazing picture of the old man. You've reached inside his soul for your shot. Beautifully done. I also like some of your shots of the building being demolished that're on your site. Good use of color and texture.

Keep shooting,
Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for your kind words and this man has a very great expression. I was driving at that place for taking the pictures of the demolished building but it was a grey and misty weather and the wall with all the wallpaper the marks of the stairs and so was already gone when I was there but I was lucky to see the old man back, met him there a few weeks ago and now I have his address and will take some more shots of him in the future.
All the very best.

Hey dirk, take a look here
http://www.davidsylvian.net/reg_cd.htm

I think it's your dog's twin.

Then if any Sylvian fans visit this page http://www.davidsylvian.net/live_enphoto.htm

and scroll down to the second set of pictures, (Martin Bostock London 14th October) those are my shots of this musical genius (available to buy as a limited postcard set from the same web site ;-) )
