Photography is a lot like sex to me as I can spend hours reading
about technique and then when the event happens I get so exicited I
forget everything I learned. Sometimes I get lucky and I am happy
with the results and sometimes I'm disappointed that I didn't apply
the fundamentals I have learned in order to achieve better results.

I am having fun learning and will continue to practice as much as I
can. I hope my wife agrees.

Your words adeptly paint a picture.
-- Photography freezes an instant for eternity....a projection of
the moment for review...there are few spontaneities such as
laughter which puts one in the present moment, but the epitome of
the here and now is the inexplicable force of creation between two.

Yes photography is like sex and no 'vice' but a lotsa versa!

One thing for sure, this forum is addictive and you will spend too much time reading stuff here and not doing enought on your own to realy learn by experience.

There needs to be a balance, not everything can be theory and if you don't read, you may waste your time while doing and not have any gain because you do not know what you are doing.

So, do read some to advance, but also spend more time doing after you read and you will see results showing soon.

Stay away from this forum unless you need to, this will become your home here.

It is dangerous...

In my opinion, from having tried the camera and seen my own (faulty results some may call it), I do not think this is the time to buy a new camera.

If you do not need a camera at the moment and can wait unitl after christmas, I will say wait. You may be able to get the 5050 for half of the price it is going now.

I remember the 3030z holded its price for a long time, even after the 4040z came out you could not find a 3030z for less than $600 locally.

On the other hand, after 9 months, and the 5050 not even dreamed yet, the 4040z was already $500 half of its original price. For some reason olympus cameras are not holding their prices the way they used to.

And as far as quality for example in my situation, from the shots I took with both 5050z and my 3030z, I do not see enough difference to justify me going out and expending an extra $800.

So, I will hangout for a bit more with my 3030z until a couple of months when hopefully some break through tech will come out with amazing difference in image quality that will be worth the efforts or by that time the N5700 will be under a grant locally.

Also, the menu on the 5050 has totally changed, it is not as easy to use as my 3030z and it is a bit more bulkier so it is not as portable. Which was the to big ups olympus had over nikon. I can operate my 3030 with one hand, the 5050z that is impossible, too many little buttons everywhere and most of them require simultaneous action which will require the use of both hands, one to press the button while the other scroll thorugh the menu using the dials.

Having seen both the N5700 and 5050z next to each other, they are not that different in sizes and I like the N5700 quality better, it just feels better to me. So, nikon has learn the lesson, powerful good quality cameras in small size. Good for them...
