iPad 2 cover caution

All I can say is . . thank god I'm not so addicted and dependent on gadgets as you. I can safely go places w/o carrying movies / books / etc on a 'thing' wherever I go. Nor do I have to be entertained constantly with a book / movie / music / iPad. I can actually get by w/o "apps". I can be with my 'self'. Nor do I need to post ad nauseam, endlessly and lovingly about a 'thing' or company like an obsessed drug addict. Give me less 'things' to depend on, not more. Nor do I HAVE to have the newest version of something to seemingly impress . . it's like a dog chasing it's tail. Chasing MORE. Your high school girl giddiness on Apple, iPad, iPhone or camera gear seems like a never ending quest to fill some infinite hole in your soul. Can't fill an infinite hole with finite 'things'. Things can all be taken away . . then you just have you. Some people can't handle that. You seem to be one of those. Possible food for thought . .though of course you won't listen.

To others . . I mean no harm to you if you enjoy your iPad . . I don't hear all this over the top continual crap from others.
Besides, I have thousands of books & a number of my most favorite full featured movies on it; and, this makes it more valuable to me, than money I would get in selling it. There are some things I just won't ever sell, and my Apple thingys are included. ;)

Exactly, I rather like them and will be purchasing a black one to go with my iPad 2, as soon as I pick it up next Friday, 11 Mar 2011. ;)

Give it about a week and there will be about 300 after-market cases and sleeves for the new iPad, just as there are for the original iPad.

Can't believe you're getting all bunched up over this.
No one's bunched up, calm down, they're just iPad cases.

I'm getting a 3rd party iPad2 cover. Problem solved.
I may change my mind about not upgrading from the iPad 1 to iPad 2. Several established electronics resellers are offering top dollar for the original iPad. I was offered $550 cash for my wifi + g3 64GB iPad. Not bad for a wholesale price. I was told vs.1 is in high demand.

Here's what's interesting. My iPad is in perfect condition because I always keep it in a case that covers the corners, back, and front. The back of my various iPad cases have scratches and gouges from being laid on hundreds of surfaces over the past year. When I checked-off the condition of my iPad on the buyers website, I clicked on "perfect" and "no scratches on the back." When I changed to "slight wear" and "scratches on the back" the quote price dropped by almost $200!

The new ipad 2 case is very cool, but it leaves the sides, corners and back unprotected. Something to think about if you might sell it in a year.

3rd party covers will be able to take advantage of the iPad 2 magnets in clever ways too. Should be interesting.

I was told vs.1 is in high demand.
Sounds doubtful to me: v.1 is slower (slower processor and slower video chip), heavier, has less RAM, is thicker, doesn't have cameras, and won't run video-intensive apps like iMovie.

Not only that, but in the USA Apple has dropped the price of the v.1 units by $100, and dropped the price of refurb units by $150. Sounds like clearance prices to move equipment that is now in low demand.
Most users surf the web, check email, look at movies, show off family photos, etc.
No one is arguing that point, but that point has nothing to do with whether v.1 is in "high demand." That's specifically what I replied to and quoted. Again, there's no reason to believe that the original iPad is now in high demans when (a) the new machines are faster, lighter, have more features and are the same price and (b) the v.1 prices have dropped . That's not a sign of high demand -- it's a sign of clearance prices to move items that (in the face of identically-priced, superior new releases) would otherwise not sell.

The v.1 64Gb 3G iPad is now selling for $729 and refurbed models are selling for $679. If you can get a good price for yours (two-thirds what you paid) then more power to you.
You do realize that I'm talking about demand for used iPads? I'm just repeating what I read...

http://www.macnn.com/articles/11/03/02/varies.by.site.but.resale.value.is.still.high/
(1) Did you go to those sites? If you have a pristine and new-looking model with all accessories you'll get $510 from Gazelle,
Obviously I went to those sites.
So we've now gone from 'up to $600' claimed in an article, to $550 when you first checked, to $510 now (but only for a 64Gb/3G iPad which "looks like it has never been used").

Seems like the price is dropping quickly for an item you say has "high demand"...

What's your obsession with used iPad prices?? Do you spend all day tracking this stuff?

Price just went up from $510 to $530. Prices are going up for a used product you say has no demand.

Appears that Apples folding cover only attaches and folds along the long side. I prefer to read my books holding it in portrait orientation.

Hope sone third party will create a cover that might work in both orientations

A reliable source said there are magnetic strips on all four sides of the iPad2.

I have a funny thing about the truth: I like it. And when I see stories shifting and unsupported claims I don't mind pointing them out. Sorry to have gotten in the way of your fun.

Would that be next friday the 11th of march?

Who cares exactly what the buy back price is. If you can get something like 400 bucks for a used iPad I say go for it. I can't believe the prices are so high. How will the reseller make a profit?

Exactly, and especially an "honest" one.

Huh? My "claim" can be supported by simply going to the site. As I said early on, prices fluctuate on the used market. That particular site was paying $550, then $510, now $530. So? I just locked in the $530 price because I don't see it rising anymore.

The $600 claim was in the linked article. Complain to them.

Funny thing about reality: I like it. Sorry to get in the way of your rant.

I'm sure they're not doing it for nothing. The best prices are for perfect condition iPads. If it shows slight wear or has some scratches on the back the price paid drops dramatically.

These prices won't last long. People haven't had a chance to even touch the new one yet, and they're looking to buy new condition used iPads to save some money. Once the new one is actually available people will lust for it, and original iPad prices will tank pretty quickly IMO.

Sal

Why doesn't Apple make their products out of something less scratch resistant and less fragile. I have this sleek, cool iPhone 4, but then I have to go slap a case on it to protect it. Putting a big ugly case over it seems to totally defeat the purpose of the sleek design.

I've seen phones, my wife's blackberry for example, that the back is made out of something that won't scratch and seems somewhat more durable. The back of my iPhone 4 cracked within the first week of ownership after a small drop.

I have a plastic Incase case on my phone which makes it thicker and bulkier...why not make the back of the iphone out of the same material as the Incase? Seems almost like a ploy to get people to buy cases if you ask me. Same goes for the back of the iPad.

Apparently I was right. The time to sell was the week right before the new iPad launched. I just received the $530 check for my old iPad as promised (thank you Gazelle!) but I notice that the price for the same iPad is now only $389.

I guess it's a bit like playing the stock market. BTW, the iPad 2 is incredible.

Sal

If you are worried about the back scratching, there are a number of companies that make skins that go on over the rear of the device (vinyl). That way you could use your smart cover and, er, eat it too?

There are also a lot of companies coming out with other cases, that feature the same magnet technology in the covers (though it will be interesting to see if many other companies use as many magnets as Apple did).

It mainly depends which type of case one opts for in specific coz there are official cases available for ipad 2 manufactured by apple itself as well as there are many 3rd party case manufacturers like otterbox, rearth, griffin etc who manufactures varieties of ipad cases like florence, hard candy skin etc ranging from cheapest, low cost to expensive ones. Currently i am using a simple pouch as it serves to be an inexpensive alternative to other tough, attractive and expensive ipad 2 cases or covers available (ipad 2 is already so attractive while casing will make it look extra bulky and huge with those hard covers).

Official Smart cases were specially created by official apple for their ipads but they did not provide utmost protection as they lacked proper backpack shielding and abt leather flip cases they are good enough but it depends on quality you use as generally hard leather cases makes phones look bulky and many a times get stained by humidity and fungus or moulds while causing damage even to ipad like ipad getting fried in leather cases.

What the heck are you talking about???
