I am really confused, am I a dumb, or I am really out of luck on the D7k body or maybe the lens?

Please see those two image, hot pixels everywhere...

1) what is that? Hot pixels and the flares on the back ground, on the coat and the pants, and the face, everywhere. It was sunny and no drifting snow. No filter, no flash.
2) download the original image then you can see tons of hot pixels

You don't have that function enabled in your profile so I can't down load original.......BTW, what firmware version are you on, and did you have a UV filter mounted in the first picture? Just looking to understand what I'm seeing.

Seriously, you need to study up on cameras, lenses, light and photography, not the D7000. You're shooting into the sun, with the sun shining on the front element of your lens, your subject is fully backlit on a white background and this is what happens. Everything is working as it should.

As to the lenscap pic, I'll leave that to the other philosophers on board.

I really really don't mean to sound mean, but them's the facts.

Hi Mako - how do I enable so that you can download the originals?

No filter, no flash, no nothing. It was taken a month ago the second day after the purchasing. Idiot green Auto mode

Firmware 1.0, no upgrade as it was day two.

Thanks!

You are 100% right, I am learning ... mean or not mean what's fine as long as I could learn something and get the help down the road ;)

LOL, it's the sun on the front element, not ice.

There are thousands of books about photography because there are things you need to know. Even an old used book will give you the basics, which will give you power because things won't be mysterious -- that's what drives you crazy in the beginning because it all seems random until you learn a few basic principles that have nothing to do with your brand or model of camera.

Example:

Direct sunshine is trouble. The solution to picture number one is a lens hood (or a hand casting a shadow on the front of the lens to shade it), and a touch of fill flash for your model because she's lit from behind. Or you could shoot from the other direction and keep the sun out of the lens front.

Stuff like that! Enjoy.

When your comfortable, go ahead and do the firmware upgrade. And yes, your pic is fine....go take some more! :)

Either this is just a joke or you really do need help.
You bought a $1200 camera.
Either read a book, take a class, join a local photo group or something.

Posting pics here that you obviously don't have a clue about, don't know what you are taking, what settings, what to do about anything is not going to help you.
Nobody here can help you in a single post.

It doesn't look like anything is wrong with your camera, your lens, nothing except you have no idea what you are doing and just need to do some study, some research, there are excellent books out there, a lot of resources.
Just posting bad photos here and asking for comments is not going to help you.
Sorry.

Thanks Z-man! Knowledge learned !

....clean it and try it again. Just playing, sir. The brutal truth is that maybe we need to learn more about how these machines work and how we can get them to give us "wow" images without the expectation that anytime we press the shutter release it's got to be good because our camera is the best.

Hi, Picture one is showing 'sun flare' off the lens caused by the position of the sun relative to your camera position and composition. Nothing wrong with the camera.

The second picture shows 'noise' caused by the camera's long exposure at high ISO in trying to expose the inside of your camera lens cover. Its trying to take a picture of 'nothing' in the dark and possibly on auto? I can't see any hot pixels, nothing wrong!

Hi,

I agree that the yellow circle is flare, but I also see pale points against the dark vegetation in the background which (a) don't look like flare to me), (b) the OP says aren't drifiting snow, (c) don't look like light coming through the vegetation.
Can anyone tell me what they are?
Thanks.

Just googled, and learnt what angel and diamond dust are. Seems like it's more likely diamond dust :-)

Different terms for the same thing if you're over 60.

On the British Antarctic Survey they used to refer to it as Angel Dust but that was before we were educated into the wonderful world of drug abuse.

The Everest expedition called it Diamond dust... whatever you call it it's not a hot/dead pixel epidemic.

Next time try to shoot such images from a shadow area so your lens does not get direct sunlight.
Nothing wrong with your camera. Relax :)

Thanks, alanscape. I'd guessed they meant the same thing, but google just gave me the drug definition. Shame when descriptive terms like that get 'misappropriated'. Did you work for BAS?

I'm also not a worrier about hot/cold/lukewarm pixels etc, but was curious about what the points of light actually were. Thanks.

Yes, the popular meaning of some words, especially colloquialisms do change over time and from society to society. I remember coming back from Vietnam in 1968 and asking where I could get fags (cigarettes)... in Idlewild (as it was then, named after the golf course) airport... not the best thing to ask in the US at that time!

No, I wasn't on the BAS but I've spent time in various world locations over the years some very cold and some extremely "hot"!
