B&H and SonyStyle.com are shipping the TX10! Does anyone have one? Any first impressions? Thanks

Cool! Trying to decide if I should by the Tx10 or TS3. Any thoughts? Like how TS3 has GPS, but Sony is so much smaller. I wonder how both compare with actual photos?

I have been looking every day hoping the Sony TX10 would be out before my trip. I had originally pre-ordered one from Amazon when they had March 18th listed as a release date. When they changed it to April 3rd I was bummed since that is the day we leave for Cancun. Last night the black version was listed available for order on the Sony site. I ordered one and it said shipping the 18th. So far it is still "processing". I don't know if this is just a ploy to get people to start ordering but all the other colors were listed as "pre-order". Today the pink one is availalble for ordering too. Amazon still has the 3rd of April listed for all of the colors. Has anyone heard anything on if any of the tx10s are really ready? I leave for my trip on the 3rd and had lost hope. I am not going to bank on this but would it be great if it is true!

I ended up buying the TX10 through Sony. Hopefully get it by Wen next week. Hopefully it as good or better than the Panny TS3.

Please keep us posted on your thoughts vs TS3.

I had a TS2 that leaked and now trust Panasonic less. And the Sony seems much smaller and more "interesting"... would love to hear your thoughts on quality, handling, etc.

I picked up on the TX10 at J&R in Manhattan on Apr 3 while I was on a stopover at JFK.

I got it as a replacement for my TX5 which was stolen. I've only used the TX10 for a couple of days, overall it is not much different than the TX5. With some obvious improvements such as 16MP vs. 10MP, 1080i HD vs 720p, with even improved software and auto modes. I must emphasize the auto-modes, low-light sensitive, and software processing on the Sony point and shoot EASILY surpasses image quality of SLR camera from a couple years ago.

My biggest complaint about the TX10 vs. TX5 is they obviously went cheaper on the materials. The TX5 built mostly of metal and felt well-built. The TX10 has converted over to plastic and feels noticably cheaper. That said it still has the same 5ft shockproof rating.

I don't know anything about the Panasonic, but if you want a slim p+s camera that's waterproof. I think either the TX5, TX10, or TX100 are great choices.

TX100 is waterproof?

I just received my TX10 today. Wow, I am impressed. The IQ is great and the video quality is great too. I have to say that I'm very happy with this purchase so far. The interface for using the touch screen is easy and intuitive. The macro capability is very good (confirming a min focus of 1cm). The background blur mode is pretty cool as is the sweep panoramic. Low light photos is really awesome too.

Here are just a few things I'd like to see improved...

-Once you click the rec button to start filming a movie it takes a good 5 seconds before the camera actually starts filming.

-the touch screen is not as sensitive as I'd like. I have to apply a lot more pressure than I would on say my iPhone. I also noticed a bit of a fat fingers problem within certain screens (particularly reviewing pictures).

-I don't know how I feel about this sliding front cover...it seems to snap pretty quickly up and down and might be stressing the rails that it is on. It also is not ideal for a rugged camera...I'm afraid that one day I'm going to get sand/dirt caught in those rails.

-I'd like to see some strategically placed rubber pads/grips on the camera. One on either side to help me hold the camera and one on the sliding cover so I can push it down easier.

This right now is killing me about the TX10. I'm used to my videos starting 5 seconds before I hit the shutter (casio) not 5 seconds after. Are y'all using properly formatted class 10 cards? Gosh 5 seconds is an eternity with kids....

With the TX5 I think one of the issues I read about was sand causing scratches on the case as you slide the cover up and down.

Yup I've got a class 10 sd card...it literally takes 4-5 secs to start filming and another 5 to record to the sd card.

One other thought...they need a buffer around the edge of the screen on the back of the camera (again...I'd like to see some rubber for a better grip). This thing is shock proof up to 5ft, but if I drop it and it lands on its back where the screen is...well i could see the screen cracking/shattering which will make it 1) ugly and 2) possibly less functional since it is a touch screen. I raised edge might help prevent that from happening. Thats all conjecture on my part though...I'm not going to test my theory :)

Hi, it was officially launched last week. I did a little digging and found a great sony tx10 review at http://sonytx10.wordpress.com/

In my opinion, it's a great camera if you love the outdoors. There are quite a few negative reviews though. Just read the review site for more details
