Exx Virgins

Welcome, Lowell. Portland has long been one of my favorite places. The view in and from the Rose Gardens is wonderful. I've spent many happy hours there and along the coast line west of Tillamook.

Plaese share some of your pix with us as you go.

One day at a time

I've had my E-10 since march of this year...why did I wait so long?...

Oh yea, for the price to drop a bit...picked it up for $1100 (after rebate) at Circuit City and am very happy with my purchase...great to see folks getting it for much less now also...

What other digital camera besides the c2100 (which I also have) is 2 years old and still highly sought after?...

Love the feel, button control, SLR viewfinder and also the build quality...like a tank!...but the proof of the pudding is in the eating...image quality amazes me, I don't see this noise people used to talk about, apparently the new firmware versions took care of that...

One of the first things I bought after I got a UV and polarizer filter was an Optech neoprene strap...makes the camera feel so much lighter and comfortable to carry all day over my shoulder hanging on my opposite side...

I than bought the Tcon-14B ( only $50 after rebate) which I usually use with my C2100 cause it has zoom range and I don't usually need more zoom on the E-10 for what I use it for...nice lens though...

Than the Mcon-35 macro lens which I just love using along with my Vivitar 285HV flash in the pink setting at 1/125 at F8 with great results...

I should be receiving my Wcon-08B this week purchased used off a forum member...can't wait.

Along with the inexpensive DPS-9000 battery pack that mounts to the tripod socket I now feel that I have a complete kit that will serve me for a long time to come...

I've never come close to being limited by 1/640 shutter speed or the 4 shot buffer...I'm happy to be able shoot a 4 shot burst...

My only gripe is the slow veview but I can live with that when I consider all the other pluses...lately I've been enjoying using the flip out LCD for low angle shots without having to lay on my belly...

Great idea for a thread here, it's been fun reading all the replies and seeing how happy everyone is with this classic...

Bob

Mark,

I'm following your instructions as listed below just to check it
out. If this photograph shows up, it is a picture of a small
portion of a "Garden Train" layout photographed near Denver. I
took the picture with a "point & shoot" Canon PowerShot S300. Now
I would like to go back with my new E-10 and a tripod and do it all
over again.
Hey, that's cool, Lowell! Looks like you got it.

What guage is that? You just gave me an idea. I have an old buddy who has an incredible N-guage layout. He has the entire thing covered in plexiglass, then sewed up a cloth "blanket" to keep the plexi clean and scratch-free.
Thanks for contributing to the Exx Virgin Gallery!

Mark,
Living here in Portland, OR, I expected it to be easy to find the
E-10. (snip)
By the time
the good weather rolls around, I will know how to work this camera.
I didn't think Oregon ever got good weather? Just kidding. I've only been there once. My ex-girlfriend lived in Eugene/Portland for 10 years. She used to tell me the weather would get me too depressed to live there. LOL The 2 weeks we were there together, the sun shone every day!

I sure would love to see some of the incredible greenery you guys have. If I remember correctly, there were places as lush as a rain forest.

I've had my E-20 for nearly a year now and it has opened up a whole new interest for me. I use it mainly in various studio environments for portraits and glamour.

Prior to the E-20 my first camera was a Kodak DC3400 2.1megapixel point & shoot - a very nice camera that fired my enthusiasm for photography.

The E-20 is a superb camera and I'm very glad I bought mine. I have no plans to 'upgrade' for a long while - so you'll be seeing me around here for a while yet ;-))

Best wishes

Paul

According to the subject list, Exx Virgins are "Hot". Yeah baby!

Enjoyable thread Mark. Didnt know you had it in ya. :)

What a way to get attention, eh?
Well, I'm just curious about how many new Exx owners are here on
the forum. How about anybody with the E-10 or E-20 less than 6
months old post a short response here. Maybe when you bought your
baby, and what camera you moved up from.
I think it's just incredible that a digital camera that is over 2
years old is still selling strong!!! What other digital can claim
this?
I'll start: I bought my E-20 on 8-20-02, and moved from a Nikon CP
990. I think the Exx is an INCREDIBLE learning tool.

I didn't know how hot this thread would get until after the first day. So I just sat back and watched the hormones fly!

It looks like it's starting to cool off though, as everybody sits back for a smoke. I was hoping to see it get to 100. Oh, well. This ol' man just doesn't have the staying power of a good LiPo. ;-)

(hmmm...I wonder if this thing would power my pacemaker)

Hi Mark-

I bought a refurb E10 less than a month ago- very excited. The camera appears perfect- including the 1.33 firmware.

A couple of years ago I bought the Canon G1- I personally didn't like the ergonomics of the camera but what I really didn't like were the focusing problems. Returned it and went to troll mode.

6 months ago I bought a UZI 2100- loved it with the exception that I really felt that 2MP would come back and bite me sooner than I expected(although I've seen fabulous photo's with the 2100). Returned it with reluctance to Comp USA.

I have no regrets about the E10- just a steep learning curve between the camera controls and learning post-processing techniques. fun fun fun

Just received my E-20 last week and can't wait to take it out for a try in the Georgia mountains while the trees are changing.

Good to hear. It seems the reurbs have been getting a bad rap lately. But you know you always hear about the bad ones, and rarely the good ones. Human nature, I guess.

What kind of focusing problems did you have? Is the G1 also plauged by a long shutter lag?

I almost did that myself. Going from my 3mp Nikon CP990, it would have allowed more optical zoom, but I'm glad I waited 'till I could afford a REAL photographer's camera.
I have no regrets about the E10- just a steep learning curve
between the camera controls and learning post-processing
techniques.
Yes. Like several others here have stated, it's a camera that makes you "think" about what you're doing. But isn't that what most of us want, a camera that will let/help us grow?
fun fun fun
yes,yes, yes!!!

Hey ARB1,

You got to share some of those pics when you get them. I'm from southern Wisconsin, and we were cheated form our usually beautiful autumn leaves. Many didn't come, and few stayed very long.
Kind of like when I throw a party. :(

I was hoping to see it get to 100.
You want to see a thread - look at this.

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1022&message=1729987

136 posts. ALL over a 4 day period (check the original post - it's dated the 6th, not 5th) with over 100 of those posts being on the same day. We used to REALLY not have lives around here.

Not to brag.

You can do it. Just focus. "Virgins" was a good idea. Remember, though, that this is mostly a technical forum. Think of something "nerdy". I know you can handle THAT.

I got my E20 in March 2002 (Ok.. more than 6 months), and it has performed well. My camera buddies are all using film SLRs like Nikon F80, Contax Aria, Pentax, Canon, etc and I still managed to surprise them from time to time with the image quality.

The E20 is good ambassador for the Digital cameras. Initially my friends did not believe that a digital camera can come so close to their film quality. Now some of them are considering buying the Nikon D100 and etc.

I have taken photos for many of my friend's wedding and it has surprised them as well. Now my weekends are all booked up because once my friends saw what the E20 is capable of, they want me to be at their weddings too. I have printed 4R, 5R, 6R, 8R and even 15R hard copies..photos from photo shops, not from home printers. The quality is good.

Coupled with the use of Adobe Photoshop 7.0, the photos from my E20 continue to impress my friends.
