7D RAW files: no thumbnails in Bridge

Dose anyone know of a version of Bridge that can read thumbnails of 7D raw files? (I'm using Bridge CS3 with Elements 9. I got it with Elements 6 and am using it with nine because I don't like the Organizer altho it does recognize the thumbnails.) I know DPP will also recognize the raw thumbnails but it's too cumbersome as an extra step in the workflow. Same for DNG converter. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Canon and Adobe were no help.

I am using Bridge CS5 and that works fine.

Have you updated your software?

On a Mac under the Help menu there is an Updates heading which should then check if you have the latest software.

It may be that the 'old' version of Bridge you are using may not support 7D files?

Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Bridge uses the Camera Raw plugin to deal with RAW files. Support for the 7D was introduced with ACR 5.6 (in December 2009) which means that Bridge CS4 (for which the latest ACR version is 5.7) or CS5 (for which the latest ACR is 6.3) will recognise EOS 7D CR2s.

Bridge CS3 has no hope of showing you thumbnails for these files, although it will show you thumbnails for DNG files that have been created from the CR2s by the free DNG Converter (any version from 5.6 onwards).

In other words, you need to upgrade to Lightroom 3 or Photoshop CS5 if you want to process RAW images from your 7D.

I guess I didn't phrase my query clearly. I'm looking for any version of Bridge that will run with Elements 9 AND recognize 7D RAW files. I am currently using Elements 9 and ACR 6.3 but can't get the thumbs in Bridge.

In answer to Birdbrain, that is exactly my problem. Bridge CS3 doesn't see 7D raw thumbs. I would love to get Bridge CS5 but will it work with Elements 9 (on a MAC) ?

I thought I answered this:

Bridge CS4 (which can use ACR 5.7) will show you the thumbnails, although if you edit in Camera Raw through Bridge it will be missing some of the controls in ACR 6.
Bridge CS5 will use ACR 6.3 and get the latest ACR functions, yes.

Either would work with Elements (they work with anything!). But I don't believe Bridge is available as a standalone product. You'd need to buy Photoshop or one of the Creative Suites to get Bridge CS5.

Of course Lightroom 3.3 is another option that shares the ACR 6.3 engine...
