I'm planning a trip to Rome/Florence/Venice in about 3 weeks and wanted to pick up a 35mm f/1.8 lens for low light/museum photography but I can't find this lens available anywhere? Last fall, you could find this lens discounted everywhere.

Does anyone know where to find one of these lenses (in the US)? I need to get one within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks!

If you can't find the nikkor and you could manage using 2.8 instead of 1.8, check out Tokinas 35mm. All around a better lens plus it has macro. You'll pay a little bit more for the Tokina though(well worth it).

As far as availability, check Best Buy for the 35 1.8 DX. I've read people having luck there.

Good luck

On a whim I tried them. Classic old store in the middle of Chicago loop, floor to ceiling type place. I ordered mine from there last night, still at $199! But alas this morning it says out of stock, so perhaps mine was the last.

Tempe camera closer to home has one on their site but at $225.
well, Central was out of stock as well, also some other place that did not have their availiability accurately reflected on their website.

The Tokina 35mm: that's a screw drive right? So it woulnd't auto-focus on a D3100?

WOW on a whim last night I decided to try the actual Nikon store and I ordered one. Thought about paying an extra $20 for 2 day air (trying to get if for sunday) but I'll take my chances with $10 ground shipping. They still had stock this morning, I was gonna let y'all know, but looks like they're already gone.

There are tons of them on Ebay. I bought mine on ebay for $200 last fall. The price seems to have gone up but there a a bunch of auctions. If you really need one, they are there.

Some 13 hrs ago, Amazon.com showed me $325 for the same from some other reseller. Now it is showing me $302.50 from Portable Guy.

I would say http://www.adorama.com backorder price is much better to trust than eBay.
Ebay prices are crazy I watched one go for 300.00 the other night used.

Evidently a popular lens. Seems Nikon did not produce enough in the last run. I would imagine that back orders will cause a larger run in the next batch.
