It has only been a couple of hours, but I really love my GF2. I had the NEX-5 and the lag time in both focus and power-up was enough to drive me crazy! The GF2 can lock on in low light so much better than the NEX. I'll take a slight degradation in image quality (at high ISO) over missing the shot from slow focus/power-up any day!

I'm also starting to realize how nitpicky these reviews are. I like the touch screen, and I don't feel it hinders me from getting to the settings I want. There is a learning curve, but it's not steep... It's annoying me that so many reviews are shaving points for this. This is a forward-thinking design....

Now if only I could find a second battery for this damn thing! Nobody has them!

I agree with you about the touch screen. I was really skeptical about it at first, but within a few minutes I was very comfortable with it.

Enjoy your new camera,
Anthony

Yeah.. There is a lot of GF2 hate on this forum.. It's an awesome camera, and if you shoot raw, the high iso performance is pretty good.. I love my GF2 so far... I bought it for the touch screen in a way -- I hated Olympus' menu system so much on the E-PL1 in playing with it, I figured this had to be better. Shot to shot time and general camera operation is quick -- fast enough to catch my two year old running around.

Hi, I've got a GF2 as well and love it.

I was wondering what software people use to convert their RAW outputs from this cam? I've only used silpix which comes with the camera at the moment and was wondering whether people have found better options. I guess most would try to use lightroom (but it is rather pricey).

Enjoy!

Just like me. I really can't understand all the negative comments about the GF2, stating that it is kind of a point&shoot camera aimed at newbies. Each new camera I own is pretty much a love story, but this time I feel that it is a special one. I don't remember me having so much fun since perhaps the time of the Canon G2, which was my first digital camera. After the G2 I've owned some more cameras: 2 or 3 Ixus, G9, S90, G12 and -on the Nikon side- D70 and D300, puting apart some chemical cameras which I continue to use. So I'm not exactly a newbie. And I would say that the GF2 is the one that I am enjoying the most.

You may want to try Adobe DNG converter which allows you using Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop. In my case I'm experiencing the learning curve of Silkypix and I'll probably continue that way since I tend to like the results obtained so far.

Congrats.

How long did you have the NEX?
What do you think about the IQ and colors from the GF2?
Post some pics when you can.

Regards.

I have had many "serious" camera s over the yrs, i love the GF2 as well, it's tiny , solid , very well built and thought out.

At the end of the day it can shoot RAW, has great controls for the magic triangle of light . aperture ,shutter spedd and ISO, what more do you need to shoot "proper" photography .

I got my gf2 yesterday and love it..

Reviewers need to understand that there are people just can't hold a heavy camera but still want to have fun by taking pictures.. GF2 provides the option.

Since my camera came with 14mm lense. Can anyone suggest the next level lense?

Thanks

I have the 20mm and added an olympus 40-150mm, it's tiny and light as a feather.
If money was no object i would like the Panny 7-14mm

Yep , works great, autofocus is very fast and quite, IQ is very sharp.

There is no IS with the Panasonic, but i use this as a outdoors lens in good light and where motion freezing shutter speeds are needed anyway, IS won't help with that.

Congrats.
But that really depends on what you like to shoot.
More info would help.

There are a few logical next steps as far as lenses go, depending on your interests.

To me, the most obvious two next options are either one of the kit zooms (14-45 or 14-42) or the 45-200mm. It's caused more than a few discussions here but I really like the 45-200 and get a lot of general use out of it. There's also the excellent 20mm f/1.7 but that's reasonably close to your 14mm so I'm not sure it makes sense as a second lens.

After that you really get into options that are slightly more specialized. Wide to ultra wide angle (7-14, 9-18), long telephoto (100-300, 75-300) or macro (45mm).

I generally carry my GF1 with the 20mm and either the 7-14mm or the 45-200mm but it obviously depends a great deal on you.

All the best and enjoy your camera!

I travel a lot.. I love to document what I see... My own interpretation of the feeling thru lense..
