Take lots of seabird pics and moving up from Lumix G1 14-45 and 45-200mm (primarily to get a decent zoom). Thinking about 60D and Canon 100-400mm. What other lenses would I need to fill the gap?

Goes without saying I have a budget but at the same time I'm hoping the lenses will be wth me for along time and don't want to waste money by upgrading at a later date. The Canon 100-400 seems to be a good lens.

I think the EF-S 15-85 is a great complement to the 100-400L. IMO, the gap between 85mm and 100mm is inconsequential.

The 15-85 was pencilled in - thanks for the confirmation. Having been thru some more posts, now think about the 400mm and a 70-300. Given there is a how does the EF 70-300 stand up to the L?

The problem with the Siggy 120-400mm OS is that it isn't much cheaper than the Canon 100-400 (or at least locally) but is heavier and bigger. Plus its resale value drops far more than the 100-400mm.

I guess unless it was higher quality - which I doubt, I don't see the point of buying it.

15-85mm is kick butt. Or the 17-55 f/2.8 if you want faster, and a 10-22mm set.

Just ordered 60D 100-400 and 15-85, 10-22 will be next. Thanks for all your comments.
