I may change my mind about not upgrading from the iPad 1 to iPad 2. Several established electronics resellers are offering top dollar for the original iPad. I was offered $550 cash for my wifi + g3 64GB iPad. Not bad for a wholesale price. I was told vs.1 is in high demand.

Here's what's interesting. My iPad is in perfect condition because I always keep it in a case that covers the corners, back, and front. The back of my various iPad cases have scratches and gouges from being laid on hundreds of surfaces over the past year. When I checked-off the condition of my iPad on the buyers website, I clicked on "perfect" and "no scratches on the back." When I changed to "slight wear" and "scratches on the back" the quote price dropped by almost $200!

The new ipad 2 case is very cool, but it leaves the sides, corners and back unprotected. Something to think about if you might sell it in a year.

Sounds doubtful to me: v.1 is slower (slower processor and slower video chip), heavier, has less RAM, is thicker, doesn't have cameras, and won't run video-intensive apps like iMovie.

Not only that, but in the USA Apple has dropped the price of the v.1 units by $100, and dropped the price of refurb units by $150. Sounds like clearance prices to move equipment that is now in low demand.

Most users surf the web, check email, look at movies, show off family photos, etc. They aren't power users and wouldn't see any difference. But it doesn't matter to me. I'm selling mine for $550 (they also cover shipping costs) which is more than I expected from a year old, discontinued consumer device that originally cost $800. I could probably get more than the wholesale prices being offered online, but I'm lazy. :)

No one is arguing that point, but that point has nothing to do with whether v.1 is in "high demand." That's specifically what I replied to and quoted. Again, there's no reason to believe that the original iPad is now in high demans when (a) the new machines are faster, lighter, have more features and are the same price and (b) the v.1 prices have dropped . That's not a sign of high demand -- it's a sign of clearance prices to move items that (in the face of identically-priced, superior new releases) would otherwise not sell.

The v.1 64Gb 3G iPad is now selling for $729 and refurbed models are selling for $679. If you can get a good price for yours (two-thirds what you paid) then more power to you.

Besides, I have thousands of books & a number of my most favorite full featured movies on it; and, this makes it more valuable to me, than money I would get in selling it. There are some things I just won't ever sell, and my Apple thingys are included. ;)

Sal, I've had the identical thoughts as you about the cover. I, as well, have kept my current iPad in its case basically since I got it (I literally pulled it out of the case yesterday for the first time in months just to remind myself what an iPad looks and feels like without a case). And, I would rate mine "like new". I've been checking the re-sellers' sites, the best I can find for my 64gb/3G is $450. Do you mind telling me what re-seller is offering you $550? Thanks!

You do realize that I'm talking about demand for used iPads? I'm just repeating what I read...

These companies aren't buying up used iPads thinking there's no demand for them.

I personally feel that being able to own and use the iPad everyday since last May for just North of $230 was well worth the cost. Just as a portfolio device it paid for itself.

They will all transfer quite effortlessly to the new iPad. I wouldn't get rid of my thingys either. :)

Gazelle.com. Prices fluctuate, right now yours is listed at $510.

Give it about a week and there will be about 300 after-market cases and sleeves for the new iPad, just as there are for the original iPad.

Can't believe you're getting all bunched up over this.

I don't know why people say that their iPhone/iPad "has all my on it, I can't possibly lose it or sell it."

If you're syncing to your computer, you have two copies of your stuff, one on the device, one on your computer (and its backups). You should be able to lose/upgrade the device and transfer "all your stuff" to the new device.

Who would expect you as Apple's chairman of their fan club to do that BRJR? Not us, we know you are a fan.

(1) Did you go to those sites? If you have a pristine and new-looking model with all accessories you'll get $510 from Gazelle, and NextWorth is offering just $405 for a "perfect" condition iPad. (2) The article was wrong to claim "up to $600 (3) You didn't say you read an article -- you said you "were offered" $550 -- who did that?

If there ever was "high demand" that has evaporated with yesterday's introduction of the new iPads. Sell your before the offering prices go even lower.

NextWorth is now offering only $342 for a perfect iPad 64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G. The best offer I found today is from buybackworld.com - $495. What web site offered $550?

I had mine covered with Ghost Armor when I first bought it, and that stuff is tough. I have no idea how your device looks after you remove it (supposedly it removes without a trace), but you can bet there's not one scratch on mine anywhere. That said, my son is already standing in line for my "used" v1, so it's not getting sold anyway. I'll more than likely have the new one Ghost Armored right out of the box, too.

Interestingly, I really like the Ghost Armor on the iPad but am not that crazy about it on my iPhone. I'm leaving it on, though. It may not be quite as beautiful, but it's certainly durable. I've accidentally dropped it several times onto concrete without a scratch or ding.

No one's bunched up, calm down, they're just iPad cases.

Already answered. Gazelle.com. Today's offer is still $510.

Obviously I went to those sites. I posted the article with the links. That was the point of the post - if the iPad is not in scratch-free the price drops by well over $100.

Gazelle.com. The price now is $510. I have no idea who's offering $600.

That article was clearly about used iPad prices AFTER the launch of the new model. That was the whole point of the article.

Thanks Sal. $510 is indeed what was quoted to me this morning.
