NEX PR0N

my canon FD adapter arrived around a week ago. so finally i have a contribution to the PR0n thread:

nex + 135mm f/2.8 rokinon in canon fd as compared sel1855

up close and personal

I had it and the images were amazing but it broke my arm!!!

Any images taken with it?

Here are a few of mine. I didn't include any that I already saw in this thread. I have 4 Canon FD lenses that I didn't include and 2 other Maxxum lenses (among others I haven't even tried yet). All 3 of these lenses are superb on the NEX-5. I tried my Canon FD 50mm 1.8 (breech-lock) and the image quality couldn't compare to my Canon EF 50mm 1.4. In many cases, optics really have improved. Always wondered if the old Canon breechlock primes were optically identical to the newest EF lenses. Apparently the old FD 50mm f1.8 is not as good as the new EF 50mm F1.4, fascinating.

Exactly how do you use the Canon EF lens on the Nex? How do you control the aperture? I assume that you do indeed use the 50mm F1.4 Canon EF lens on the Nex, and that the lens has no aperture control ring.

Correct. It is not ideal because you have to do that silly procedure of choosing one f-stop and setting the lens just to that. So you only have one choice of f-stp as you shoot. You put the lens on your EOS, choose your aperture, hold the DOF preview button down, and remove the lens while holding down the button. This leaves the lens at the chosen aperture. Definitely not P&S, but you can make it work. Where there's a will there's a way!

And I thought my enlarging lenses were inconvenient. So, all you have to do to make your compact Nex kit work is take along a Canon Rebel. In case you want to change apertures now and then.

So there's something really special about the Canon 50mm F1.4 that just can't be imitated by, say a 50mm F1.4 SMC Takumar. You know, with one of those aperture ring thingys. Hmm, it's got to be all about the bokeh. That's how I'm going to explain spending $120 on a focusing ring for my nearly featureless, slow 45mm F4 Componon.

Is that the only other camera body you need to have with you, to make the EF lenses work? Or do you need a second one in case you want to change the focusing distance?

Obviously the world of Canon has gone a long way since the FTb I purchased in the 1970s. Back then it was only one camera body per lens.

... that people might try their Canon EF lenses because they already have them ??

I doubt that anyone would consider buying an EF lens just to use on a NEX.

Phillip A: Did you ever think ...that people might try their Canon EF lenses because they already have them ??

Hey, we're all trying to not be TOO left-brained in a thread titled "Nex Porn".

It's called tinkering. Some of us like to do that. We learn from it.

Though perhaps I can enlist you in my LN2LN project (Liquid Nitrogen Lens for the Nex), to finally conquer corner light falloff with short rangefinder lenses.

...and tell us which lenses it works well with.
REALLY dark forces, hehe.

No EFs for me, though obviously there are great ones.

amazing they went to the trouble of making that adapter--I can't find it for sale.

I don't think it's cheap.
