Amazon Delay!!

Now I'm feeling bad for recommending it ... this was the first time I ever ordered something direct from Olympus (always get my photo stuff mostly from Amazon and sometimes others, e.g . Adorama, B&H, etc.) and my experience was first rate ... sorry to hear about these issues ... harry

I had a totally different experience.

I actually got a call back from them, 45 minutes after first being told that the camera would ship this week.

The fellow (who identified himself as John) said that he looked into my order further, and that it would not ship this week, but would ship next week, and that they would have them well before Amazon got their next shipment. (No surprise there I guess).

I was very impressed that he would take the time to call me back, and leave a message on my cell.

Took just a tiny bit of the sting out of the tax and shipping premium I am paying over Amazon $$$.

HA! Yes, this is a rarely exhibited virtue! My husband is also shocked :-)

It was really the person I talked to first this morning who was horrible. She just kept interrupting me and being rude. Never-the-less, I left a message for her manager about that. The other people I spoke with were very nice and helpful, but Oly does have some work to do on being a good e-tailer. No worries though, I have a white one coming from B&H so I'll still be getting an XZ-1 which is the end goal, right? ;-)

I spoke with them today, and they are really nice people. Only problem for me is that I have been unable to get my hands on this thing to try it out at all, so I really need some flexibility to return if the camera just isn't right for me. This is a small shop and they are selling them well (they had one left when I spoke with them today), so they let me know that they wouldn't take it back unless there was a defect with the camera. Totally understand that, so I passed. Luckily I was able to get one of the white ones from B&H when they had them yesterday. Hope I like the color and feel in person.

Right now, if you order an XZ-1 from Amazon, the order will be fulfilled by H&B Digital for $549 ($6.97 shipping). But, if you click on Amazon's links to the H&B Digital web site, you can get a white XZ-1 for $499 with approximately the same shipping cost. And if you do order an XZ-1 from H&B, you still check out through Amazon. Where the extra $50 goes, it's not back to your pocket.

Adorama just shipped a white XZ-1 for my Mum at $499, so they must have stock now. I placed this order early January so I don't know if they have spare stock for new orders. Worth a try though if you have been waiting for a white one.

The manager from Olympus customer service called me back this morning and she was really nice and aplogetic for the bad experience I had with the one rep. I let her know the other two I spoke with were fantastic and she thanked me for calling and reporting the issue as it's obviously more helpful than if just hung up angry and never let them know.

She also let me know that their warehouse has been balancing getting stock to retailers vs. their own online store so that's why they hit backorder so quickly. She said it'd be next week before they get more.

YES! I just received an e-mail from Amazon to expect delivery of my XZ-1 on March 10th. Kind of funny, though, that I pre-ordered on Jan. 21st and someone just browsing Amazon could order and receive the XZ-1 at the same time as me! I now know to NEVER pre-order from Amazon.

... actually I think you done good, June. The more I do business with Amazon, particulalry lately, the more loyal a customer I have become. I order an inredible amount of stuff from them and, to me, they are the world's best retailer ... so your loyalty - and patience - is hereby acknowledged as a virtue. Although I would have normally done the same thing, when I saw the camera available directly from Olympus I just couldn't resist. Not feeling too guilty though, given how much I do get from them ... hats off to you ... harry

Thanks, Harry!

I'm not upset with Amazon. I, like you, order tons of stuff from them and have always been happy with Amazon's service ... I just see that pre-ordering doesn't seem to give an advantage over careful watching! In my case, I had a $250 gift certificate tied up in my pre-order. Of course, now I'm getting an XZ-1 for $250 - SWEET :-)

I don't know...but we hope to see lots of XZ-1 pictures from you, as soon as you get it. :)

I just received an e-mail from Amazon as well saying mine would be delivered on March 11th. I ordered it on January 24th.

It feel great to know that it's finally going to arrive!

I just hope to get some photos worthy to post! I saw that our new challenge is about shadows. That should be interesting!
