Finally the panorama I wanted!

When Sony introduced the sweep panorama, the results were a bit disappointing. The stitching was good and the new motion detection worked well in most situations but the quality was the one from a stitched video feed - too low res for most uses.

Again Sony listens to the users who demanded a better resolution and responded with the 42MP HR panorama.

Now you will have this quality from the new cameras like: Sony HX9V, HX7V, HX100V,TX100V, WX10 and more

everybody in the known world is waiting .....for a full size sample to see for ourselves if this is true ....can´t tell anything from your crops

I would also like to see how the Fuji F550EXR's IQ compares as it has both the Backlit CMOS sensor and Fuji's EXR technology.

That could give it an advantage in DR over the Sony.
Time will tell......

I am also waiting to see if this outperforms the sony, especially after the dissapointment with the hx5v image quality.

sorry that you can not see the huge difference from an original size lossless crop
both shot from the same point.

... but the best I can give you is a couple partial panoramas since they are shot out of a window with a limited sweeping angle
hope that helps.
just google for: "Panorama HR - Sony HX9V, HX7V, HX100V,TX100V, WX10"

funny...when I google , the first entry is this thread ...haha - really if you have a fullsize sample to show , then show it. If not , then stop tooting your horn !

What can one do with a panorama shot, other than to:

1) Display it on a 1920x1080 screen, which may not show any better resolution with the newer mode.

2) Print it to paper compatible with Legal Size (8.5" x 14" in the US), which will still use only part of the height and not convey much detail or majesty.

3) Crop the shot, which will be no different than using a more conventional aspect ratio and shooting mode.

4) Spend a fortune to print mega-sized panoramic shots at a lab, throw away the ones that don't look good, buy a $200 8'x20' mount rig, and clear out a vacant wall in the home to adorn with it, until the Mrs sees what you are doing (or hears you shout "woo-hoo") and stages a riot: "Eeeeck! What on EARTH are you doing?"

5) Display it on the camera LCD in animated form at 270k resolution.

I have a fullsize sample if you guys would like to see it, but I don't have anywhere to upload it. DPReview won't accept files over 20MP, imgur rescales, and I'm reluctant to upload it to my personal flickr.

well Cy , I print mine at 16x36...or more and they look beautiful....simple

send me a pm and I can give you my email, than I can host it on my server and share the link, no problem.

The way to look at a panorama is with a panorama viewer.
google devalvr
and what is wrong with tooting ones own horn?
I like to toot my own horn, it has a nice sound.

and just for you I made this comparison.

pre-production HX9V - top normal panorama mode - bottom HR panorama mode (original size)
the top part has been enlarged 200% to match the exact frame.

Still think there is not much difference?

ok looks nice but I still have to have the 42mp file and see it for myself- obviously there´s interest on my part or I wouldn´t keep coming back - let´s hope you can host the file

uhm....
how can you judge a 16MP picture resized to 0.8MP without EXIF intact???
and what has this to do with panorama mode HR?
