My wife was nice enough to surprise me with a 9x12 Intuos2 for my birthday. Now I am trying to learn how to use it. I want to start with photo retouching in Photoshop (mainly what I will use it for) and then learn more about Painter 7.

What are your favorite sites with tutorials? Are there dedicated forums for the Wacom devices (couldn't find any on Wacom's site).

Of those who have upgraded their Painter 7, was it worth the price? What do you get for the upgrade?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Actually, I never looked for tutorials on mine. I just got it running and started using it. It didn't see like something that I had to 'learn' to use.

I can give you some advice... put away that silly mouse and use your regular mouse. It will work much better.

I'm not really into Painter, so I didn't use it much and didn't upgrade.

Just play with your new toy and in a little while, you will know all you need to know.

I have a 9 x 12 as well. Don't use a mouse, the whole point of it is to utilize the pen, the bottom paints the other tip erases. They a web site with tutorials on it, wacom.com I think. I have a few notes that I took at the adobe workshop where intos demonstrated, if you would like I can email a copy to you.

Pretty much the pen acts just like a mouse, everything you could do with a mouse you can do with it.

As for painter 7, didn't have 6 so can't rate it but I am in a class and everybody seems to think 7 is even better than 6. I love this program, along with PS what more could you need in life?

Someday, they'll make it so that it doesn't crash every time you work on a large image for more that 1/2 hour.

7 gives you more of what Photoshop 7 has. It's more compatible with photoshop and has gotten rid of some of the quirky painter idiosyncracies. It is better but it should really be a lot better. There is another program that plugs right into Photoshop. I have tried this other program and it works similar to painter but is more lile photoship. I have not checked it out recently.

Vaguely recall (year or longer, maybe) there was a tutorial offered - something about Zen... pen. Never tried it and can't find any notes about it. Maybe it rings a bell with someone here...

Happy Birthday G Couch, and check this link http://www.myjanee.com/askarchive.htm .

Hope this helps
