X100 amazon.com preorder available again

Its the internet - there is always a nefarious explantation.

I've placed an order for the in-stock one and asked how they obtained an unreleased camera. It will be interesting to see if it is legitimate. If not, it is covered under Amazon's protection as well as my credit card company. I'll post results when I know them.

Appears that we Europeans would have to wait.

I also bought one from the Amazon Marketplace called BEST SALE PRICE or BEST PRICE SALE, store. How can they get these X100'S before official release?..they had has many as eight listed a day ago ready to ship SUPPOSEDLY.

Could these be early firmware models..or something NOT good? Hopefully the ones that were sale are for real and not some sort of pre productions models that somehow escaped..Any body know anything about this?

I got a response from them today saying I could expect the camera in 5 to 7 days even though I ordered expedited delivery. I asked how they got the camera before its general release and what version of the firmware it came with. I don't have answers to these questions yet so we will see.

Has anyone heard of any shops selling pre-production models of any brand of camera? I haven't.
No, about that part there, I'd guess, Slava is just joking.

Fuji would never let any shop sell a pre-production model, and Amazon wouldn't do it in a billion years.

I ordered from that BEST SALE PRICE place too...chose 2 day delivery option. So far Amazon is saying delivery estimate delivery between Feb 23-24th. Was told I can no longer CANCEL or CHANGE my order as Fuji is being prepared for SHIPMENT! My only comforting thought that they are NOT pre production Fujix100's? is they had eight of them. More likely these guys have an inside friend at Fuji or something OR they fell off a truck . :). I too am wondering will this be final firmware? Also WEIRD this BEST SALE PRICE place sells MAINLY cheapo DVDS and gane software. The Only other camera I saw for sale there was a Canon EOS about $800. Other than that it's so odd a NON camera store would be FIRST to get this hard to get camera? But unless it's a dummy..that firmware should be upgradeable if it's a pre release version..so that shouldn't be an issue I hope. I had read some reviews that the pre production X100'S don't look QUITE as nice though as the final product will look as to beveled dials..and that leatherette things wrapping the camera.

If any body finds out for sure did they ship pre production..please keep us informed.

No matter what..there's something odd about the "sale of an unreleased product." I just hope it's the real thing and same as Amazon will have...whenever it is REALLY available

Somehow, I seriously doubt that you're going to be getting what you think you're getting. You've ordered from a store nobody has heard of ("Best Sale Store"), at a price below the reputable price, and before the camera has even been released. I first thought they might be overseas selling grey market, but not if they're shipping USPS.

Good luck--I think you're going to need it.

This is probably why many old timers wanted a separate X100 forum. We're going to see a lot of posts from people with no experience at buying gear or taking photographs. Makes no difference to me, but I feel sympathy for people who are going to lose their money or be disappointed.

Sadly, it may not be the camera that's the dummy, with all the red flags you listed.

While I agree with you that it is unlikely (but not impossible) that they are going to get a X100 before the release date, all they are really risking is having to call Amazon to get their money back. Amazon is very good about protecting people from third-party sellers.

Having said that, this is a 3rd party seller who has been selling on Amazon for a long time. It seems odd that they would throw away their reputation for nothing. I'll be curious to hear about what happens.
